Former Toad the Wet Sprocket singer... definitely not a freeper!
I saw Glen Phillip's show last night in Minneapolis and I swear he has to be a DUer. He talked about Bush planning on vetoing the torture bill made a side comment about the Ohio election and sang a great and very fitting Randy Newman song (lyrics below)

For Toad fans that haven't kept up with Glen's solo career, I highly suggest checking his new album out. You can listen to song samples on his website and buy his album from ITunes for $10.

Political Science The New Freeper National Anthem
by Randy Newman

No one likes us-I don't know why
We may not be perfect, but heaven knows we try
But all around, even our old friends put us down
Let's drop the big one and see what happens

We give them money-but are they grateful?
No, they're spiteful and they're hateful
They don't respect us-so let's surprise them
We'll drop the big one and pulverize them

Asia's crowded and Europe's too old
Africa is far too hot
And Canada's too cold
And South America stole our name
Let's drop the big one
There'll be no one left to blame us

We'll save Australia
Don't wanna hurt no kangaroo
We'll build an All American amusement park there
They got surfin', too

Boom goes London and boom Paree
More room for you and more room for me
And every city the whole world round
Will just be another American town
Oh, how peaceful it will be
We'll set everybody free
You'll wear a Japanese kimono
And there'll be Italian shoes for me

They all hate us anyhow
So let's drop the big one now
Let's drop the big one now

1. Thanks for the head's up
I'm a big Toad fan and Glenn is a fantastic song writer. His former bandmates started another band which I believe is called "Lapdog" if they haven't changed it.

2. Yay! Another Glen fan!
I've made a habit of catching every show of Glen's I can here in Denver. He's a great songwriter, and coupled with his measured, thoughtful sense of justice and humanity, he becomes a great spokesperson for progressive political thinking.

And to make this post more like an Amazon.com recommendation thread, I give the new album "Winter Pays for Summer" five stars. Listeners who like Glen will also like Girlyman, Mark Erelli, Todd Snider, Justin Roth.

4. sweet!
I grew up as a TtWS fan, and was very fortunate to catch them live at a taste of cincinnati several years ago for FREE!
Fear was the soundtrack of my '92 summer. Later they faded from my memory. Having all my cd's stolen several times over in life, they had slipped my mind completely. Thank you for reminding me of this great band. Think I'll buy a discography on amazon today.
