Dobson may be called to testify on Miers (What Rove told this whack job?)

WASHINGTON — Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., who is chairman of the Judiciary Committee, and several Democrats on the committee said Sunday that they were considering calling James C. Dobson to testify on what he has been told about Harriet E. Miers, the president's Supreme Court nominee.

"If Dr. Dobson knows something that he shouldn't know or something that I ought to know, I'm going to find out," Specter said Sunday in an interview with George Stephanopoulos on the ABC program "This Week."

In response to a later question, Specter added, "If there are back-room assurances and if there are back-room deals and if there is something which bears upon a precondition as to how a nominee is going to vote, I think that's a matter that ought to be known by the Judiciary Committee and the American people."

Dobson, the influential founder of the conservative evangelical group Focus on the Family, has said he is supporting Miers' nomination in part because of something he has been told but cannot divulge. He has not disclosed the source of the information, but he has acknowledged speaking with Karl Rove, the president's top political adviser, about the president's pick before it was announced.

On his radio program last Tuesday, Dobson said, "When you know some of the things that I know — that I probably shouldn't know — you will understand why I have said, with fear and trepidation, that I believe Harriet Miers will be a good justice." He added, in a reference to aborted fetuses, "if I have made a mistake here, I will never forget the blood of those babies that will die will be on my hands to some degree."

17. It just strikes me as ludicrous that with all of the truly important
issues that the Supreme Court considers, the rightwingnuts only care about Miers stance on abortion. That seems to be the only question they have about her qualifications and nothing else matters.

16. It's not just the code words that they are using. On Meet The
Press yesterday, Dr. Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention says that since Bush and Miers are both from Texas, Bush will consider it an act of betrayal if Miers, as a Supreme Court Justice, did not vote the way he wanted her to.

This, by the way, is the same Dr. Land who stated on a Frontline documentary, "The Jesus Factor", that on the day that Bush was inaugurated as governor of Texas that he (Bush) said that he thought God wanted him to be President.

34. Dobson under oath>>>>>>>>>>>>LIES LIES LIES LIES LIES LIES
Don't think for one minute that Dobson will tell the truth under oath. He knows that Miers WILL vote to overturn Roe v Wade because somebody in the WH (Bush? Rove?) told him so. Miers has a quid pro quo, and somebody told Dobson about it. But these people all lie through their teeth to cover for each other.

20. Ooooh, I hope they call him to testify!
This administration sure likes to share information with people who have no business/clearance knowing it, and keeping it from the people who should be informed -- like, oh, congress, so they can have informed confirmation hearings.

I mean, they shared the Iraqi war plans with a foreigner -- I can't remember if it was Bandar or Chalabi.

I have never ever seen anything like this in my life -- Bush and his people are behaving as if the United States is their personal goody bag, they can do with it what they will, if they say it's so it is, if they say none of your business it isn't. And I know they behave this way because the believe this way.

It's so flipping frustrating. I do not want to live in a theocratic country, I do not want a dictator running it, I do not want this country trashed anymore than it already has been by these criminals!

I know, I'm preaching to the choir here, but --- :banghead:

23. Another 'no win' for the NeoCons/Religious Reich...
- If Dobson was LYING and was told nothing, then he's exposed as LYING to his faithful flock..

- If Dobson WAS TOLD something by Rove, then it's more corruption in the process and circumventing the Judiciary Committee.

- If Dobson WAS TOLD something by Rove and LIES and said he wasn't .. .see above..

Get the Popcorn mother, this is gonna be FUN!

http://www.trotn.com/miers.htm I don't care if James Dobson is wetting himself with excitement, and bragging on national TV about being told stuff he shouldn't ' know--(was he suppose to keep that quiet-DUH) by the Whitehouse, or will feel betrayed and call her a baby killer.

She is the personnel friend and counsel to the president. She was with him on 8/26/01 the day of the infamous presidential briefing concerning Osama Bin Laden.

I hope he fights to keep her and some of the ugly truth comes out, BUT we have to fight this on principal- even if Harry Reid might have a plan.

31. Atheist Group Files FOIA requesting documents given to Dobson
Press Release:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 10, 2005

ATHEIST GROUP FILES FOIA ACTION TO FORCE
WHITE HOUSE DISCLOSURE OF "DOBSONGATE" RECORDS

An Atheist civil rights group announced today that it has filed a
Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to force the release of any
documents and other records released by White House senior advisor Karl
Rove to James Dobson and other evangelical leaders in an effort to boost
support for Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers.

Last week, Dobson -- head of the "Focus on the Family" group -- boasted
that he was "privy" to "confidential" information that led him to
support the Miers nomination, and that the insider information
originated with administration operative Karl Rove. Rove is already the
subject of a federal grand jury probe in another matter for his alleged
leaking of the identity of a CIA agent.

Attorney Edwin Kagin filed the FOIA request on behalf of American
Atheists. Kagin noted that ordinarily the president and the White House
staff are exempt from FOIA actions. "By providing 'confidential'
information to someone like Dobson, the White House has surrendered its
executive privilege, and cannot hide behind a FOIA exemption to conceal
this information from Congress and the American people," said Kagin.

Ellen Johnson, president of American Atheists, said her group is
supporting the efforts of legislators like Sen. Ken Salazar of Colorado
to find out exactly what "confidential" information was provided to
religious right leaders, including Dobson.

"The Bush administration is not sharing all of the background
information on Miers with the Senate Judiciary Committee, the media and
the American people," said Johnson. "But Karl Rove can pick up the
phone and pass this background on to extremist preachers like James Dobson."

"What's wrong with this picture?"

Edwin Kagin said that the FOIA request is the first of its kind of which
he is aware to force disclosure of White House records on the basis
that Executive Privilege has been suspended. "They can't argue national
security or any other sort of exemption here," said Kagin. "They shared
information with a private citizen who happens to be a powerful
religious right supporter of the Bush administration. This is about
politics, not the war on terror or national security, and the American
people have every right to know what is in these documents."

Mr. Kagin added: "American Atheists is actively contesting the giving of
'confidential' information about a Supreme Court nominee to the
Religious Right -- information that is denied the U.S. Senate and the
American people."

AMERICAN ATHEISTS is a nationwide movement that defends civil rights
for Atheists; works for the total separation of church and state; and
addresses issues of First Amendment public policy.

What a bunch of boobs! In a game of chess Reid basically totally took them off guard and said "check". They were at such a loss at what to do they call up Dobson to try to reel in this circus that is starting to get away from them. In their desperation they fucked up royally!!!!

I get the impression the Bush administration is so nervous, so stressed and so unsure of themselves they are making HORRIBLE political decisions. It's gotten so bad it's almost comical!!!

This is awesome! Reid fucked them so hard they are like Dogs chasing their tails and stepping in their own poop over and over and over.
