CBS Evening News had a segment called 'Home front" going across...
America and they started with military recruits at Parris Island, NC. Some the of the recruits said they would be helping Iraq become a democracy and would be fighting for a good cause. The reporter said there were various reasons for becoming recruits such as jobs, college and one recruit even had the chance to run his families MULTI-MILLION dollar business but chose to enlist. I don't mean to say anything bad about the recruits and I certainly wish them well and hope for their safety, but it just seemed like a promotion for recruiting.

1. Yeah saw it too
They were all equating with what they were doing as retribution for 9/11. So very disappointing that people are still believing that shit. Makes me wonder if the recruiters aren't putting the 9/11 connection in their heads.

3. Devil's advocate
lets assume you are a Marine, and your DI tells yuo exactly what to say when the good news crew shows up...you sure you want to say something else?

Chew on that one... and the DI may have told them exactly what to say, after he or she was instructed by the Public Affairs officer

6. That wouldn't surprise me at all. However,
I think they all believed what they were saying. Just they way they said it.

10. whoa
ever served?

I asked, it is relevant.

If yuo have you will get what I said... you learn very quickly to be very "suportive" of the mission, and speak your true feelings well after work and at home and in private, maybe.

I am also betting these guys were not first week boots, but close to fonishing bootcamp, the job of installing the Marine is almost done.

14. It sounds like you have served so what is your thought?
Are the recruiters or the DIs telling them that they will be going to Iraq to envoke revenge for 9/11? If they are doing this.... I don't know what but that would be f***ed up!

15. Yes, unfortunately the propagada got to them
They really think Iraq had something to do with 9/11. The Bushco propaganda machine has poisoned many minds with blatant falsehoods. These young people are going off to war with good intentions to defend family and nation, but they have been lied to by their Republican-BushCo Federal government.

Impeach the bum.

7. Exactly what I was going to say
These soldiers are forbidden from expressing dissent with their mission.Even my own son,who is normally very open with me,declined to say anything against his MISSION.

8. Well one thing about CBS, every night they do a short story when they
they are going into the half way commercial about a serviceman or woman who has lost their life in Iraq. At least they are keeping the story out there.

13. Every recruit that she talked to said
It was because of 9/11.She said that. Still.

This long after. None of the "corrections" or "debunkings" have penetrated the apolitical world. I think that's all the evidence we need to lay the deaths of our kids at the feet of the liars.
