So who is the Surgeon General right now and why are they MIA in bird flu?

I am asking a serious question. I must be very un-informed, but I just realized when I saw Bernadine Healy on TV this evening that I do not know who the Current Surgeon General is. I mean, I know Healy, Koop and Elders but who sits in the chair now? Have they been a public face in informing and preparing the public for the real risks of avian flu? Let me hope that the Surgeon General is not a former Dallas podiatrist who helped a Bush cousin through a serious ingrown toenail.

At least he's an actual doctor, LOL. He appears to have very good credentials, at least as a surgeon.

He has been totally invisible though.

Shrubco doesn't generally seem to actually find superstar types to be too desireable in their appointments. Look at a guy like Koop--Reaganites wanted their antiabortion zealot, and the guy turned out to actually be an advocate for (gasp) public health measures against AIDS! Including condoms (double gasp)! Because he saw it as a doctor, and not an ideologue (triple gasp)!

10. The US Military. He asked for it after Katrina and he asked again

for the bird flu...he's looking to use our own military against civilans...count on it, that's his desire. It may or may not happen but he keeps insisting that he should be able to use them for domestic issues.
