30. I hven't been following
I liked Alda in MASH, but he seems like he'd be a strange president in this one. It's funny how the West Wing really keeps you on edge in electtions even if they aren't real...

5. I have been watching both, just to escape the reality of bu$h regime
Personally I am riveted to the campaign on West Wing. At the same time I am intrigued with a female president. I think this country needs a woman to set us straight.

West Wing is still my favorite.

8. Davis is just not convincing in this role. Could have been a good
series but really, couldn't they have gotten someone who is a real heavy hitter? Davis is a good actress but not a great actress. Sheen on the other hand was made for his Bartlett role. Sheen rocks. I agree, time for updating on West Wing.

11. I think Geena is doing well with subpar writing
Edited on Wed Oct-12-05 12:26 PM by Blasphemer
The first daughter's travails at public school as a plot point? Puhleeze. The ridiculous ending to the "San Pasqual" storyline punctuated by the seering drama of the President going off text :eyes: . The Former Fist Lady is roaming around the White House and yet they haven't used any of the natural drama that should emanate from that at all. Nathan Templeton is painted as the villian in the piece but so far he hasn't brought it. C'mon, this is Washington politics, if the man is going to be dirty, make him diiiiiiiiiirty. I'll keep watching to see if it improves but so far it's Washington D.C.-lite.

16. In contrast to the West Wing, that is about running the country from
the White House, with all the politics involved, this one is about a woman's adjustments to the role. So, yes, the emphasis is about the personal difficulties of her daughter, her spouse, even her press secretary who all of a sudden finds herself in a bigger role.

And... even the West Wing originally was going to emphasize the "Sam Seaborn" role. Rob Lowe was going to be the star and Martin Sheen an occasional guest star. But he turned out so good that the emphasize shifted and Lowe left.

19. Well maybe. Writing is rather silly but Davis just doesn't have the
pizzaz. Streep, Spacek, etc., could pull this off and maybe make it believable in spite of the bad writing but not Davis. Oh well, it's a bust as far as I'm concerned. Will continue to watch WW and hope another good one comes along.

21. CiC is kinda dumb...
But I love how they couldn't bring themselves to make Davis a Republican, even going so far as the utter implausability of a right-winger choosing an Independent for his running mate (and then wanting to dump her immediately after the election - sooooo far fetched).

I think Davis is okay in the role, but the closeups are really starting to grate. Her face just fills up the screen, and it's almost frightening.

9. I like our new female President...
Geena Davis was the perfect person for the role of President. Some of the other people cast don't seem to fit the role. The girl that plays the Press Secretary(?) looks more like a junior high school kid. Her appearance is awful. That role is more for an experience actor like Susan Saransen or that smart blond actor (Kali) from Miami CSI. Don't know her real name. Also, the president's husband and that whiny teenage daughter are getting on my nerves. West Wind is far superior in supporting actors.

10. I reserve judgement until I see if she can deliver a line like this:
"And while you may be mistaking this for your monthly meeting of the ignorant tight-ass club, in the White House when the President stands, nobody sits."

I like the job he is doing personally. I love being able to hate him. It shows me he's doing his job as the bad guy. In reality Alda is a liberal and supports liberal causes so I can't hate him personally. Plus, I've always loved M.A.S.H. since my grandfather was a huge fan and got me into the show. He's still great! I'm just still rooting for Santo's of course!

22. Jed Bartlett....
Although either the Matt Santos or Arnold Vinnich would be a vast improvement over the option we have in real life. :eyes:

I'm not getting into the new "Cammander in Chief" series. Gina Davis couldn't fill CJ Craigg's role on West Wing, let alone President.

29. how about Ellen Degeneras as president, then
she could still have the 1st lady.

haha just joking.

I like the idea of woman as president, but if they don't make the plots a little more interesting, I'm hitting the snooze button.
