DALLAS -- A Republican congressman from The Woodlands was arrested and charged with driving under the influence in South Dakota.

A state trooper pulled over U.S. Rep. Kevin Brady, 50, Friday night for a problem with the taillights of his vehicle, Clay County Sheriff Andy Howe said.

While I'm not surprised, I wonder if this will make anything beyond the local news ?

1. Surprisingly, he copped to the whole thing
"I deserved it." "No one above the law" etc.

Gotta give credit where it's due.

3. Good for him!
It's nice to see someone NOT try to weasel out of it by using their status.

2. Repugs always counter back that Democrats get in trouble too....
I wonder if there is any list of offenses in both parties? I'd be willing to be the Repugs have way more, but I am curious to see it in print!

4. I heard this yesterday. Can't remember, CNN I think.
These poor officials are really losing all their influence, huh?

I remember the days when all you had to do was show the right ID (police officer ID, Gov't official ID, Judge) and the worst you got was a warning!

7. What is the Age of Consent in South Dakota, and what is it in Texas?
I'm just wondering what could motivate a pro-family Republican to go on a drunken, late-night, interstate road trip with busted tail lights, and then consider himself lucky to only get busted for a DUI.

10. He was going to a college football game at USD.
<snip>

"It was homecoming weekend at the University of South Dakota, so officers were on the alert for driving violations including manning sobriety checkpoints, Howe said.

Brady is a graduate of the University of South Dakota."

9. So a white, inebriated driver is arrested in SD
and a black, (probably) sober pedestrian is arrested in NO . . .
