firedoglake: Fitzgerald asking for an extension???
Don't know if firedoglake is reliable or not, just saw reference to this while browsing Salon's Table Talk:

http://firedoglake.blogspot.com/2005_10_09_firedoglake_archive.html#112913680075501347

"A source close to the Plame case is saying that Fitzgerald met alone with Judge Hogan yesterday, presumably to ask for an extension of the Grand Jury."

On one hand, I want Fitzgerald to make sure there are no slips in his investigation, but on the other hand, if this is really true, I don't know how much more suspense I can take!

1. There's been some very good analysis there.
All depends on the source though. Thing is, this is a logical thing for Fitz to do and he has piles of ammunition justifying such a request... especially if he has evidence of perjury and obstruction of justice and so on meant to "run out the clock" on his work.

2. Someone mentioned here awhile ago that he needed Congress to give him...

... and extension, and therefore had better go with whatever he had by Oct 28, lest Congress say "Time's Up!"

So is that not the case? Does the judge determine his tenure?

3. I don't know what Congress would have to do with this.
Only to the extent it funds the investigation. The Justice Dept. appointed him and I belive it's up to the Judge to decide on extensions.
