At the White House, they went into "quick action mode." Jed raked Toby over the coals, wouldn't accept his resignation so that he could fire him for cause, and had him escorted from the White House. He told him that he was both astonished and not surprised at the same time, that he always new that Toby would crash like this because he (Toby) considered himself morally superior to Jed. As Toby left, he said, "when you walk out the door, there will be people who consider you a hero. Don't for a minute think that I'm one of them."
