Neo-convicts and Other Criminals
Article III, Section 3 of the Constitution narrowly defines treason as the act of going to war against the USA, or the act of aiding the enemies of the USA. It does not define as treason the act of dismantling the government in order to enrich cronies and corporate buddies. This is not considered treason. Nor is it considered treason to severely cut social programs that benefit ordinary Americans, or to ignore the needs of the elderly, the poor and minorities. Treason is the act of aiding our enemies. Our leaders are on our side, right?
They don't consider it treasonous that they emptied the treasury, squandered our resources and marched us to war in violation of international law even while the majority of Americans opposed the idea. No treason there. Although the White House gave false testimony, engaged in illegal and unethical behavior in order to justify going to war, it wasn't treason. Using evidence based on fraudulent forged documents, they deliberately misled the American people in order to wage pre-emptive war for their own private profit. But this is not considered treason.
They would have to wage war against their own people to be guilty of treason. It would not be enough that they personally ordered the deaths of 2000 American soldiers sacrificed for no other reason than opportunistic avarice. That would only be criminal rather than treasonous.
Criminals go to prison. That's how they escape the firing squad.
