Denver Voters OK Marijuana Possession
Edited on Wed Nov-02-05 10:35 AM by noahmijo
DENVER - Residents of the Mile High City have voted to legalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana for adults. Authorities, though, said state possession laws will be applied instead.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting early Wednesday, 54 percent, or 56,001 voters, cast ballots for the ordinance, while 46 percent, or 48,632 voters, voted against it.

Under the measure, residents over 21 years old could possess up to an ounce of marijuana.

I'm not even a user but I think it is complete bullshit that Mary Jane is illegal in this country and the tax dollars wasted on enforcing and incarcerating users of the drug.

And I will add I've never encountered a violent pothead. In my experience the only precaution to take with potheads is never loan em money :)

I put that bud on my scanner a couple of years ago. Nice to see it's still on the internets.

Wish I could spread the real thing around so easily!

10. Hick here.
I would welcome you to town, since it's obvious you've never been here, or if you did, were too jaded to actually get to know any of us, but it's tough to convince others, so I'll just have to spring for those tickets to the fall rodeo and sheep fuck fest for someone who would appreciate it. Sorry.

Denver's a cool town, IMO.

If you want to pay my way into the rodeo, I'll take you up on that. I'm not a hick, but I do love a rodeo, and have ever since I was little growing up in Massachusetts.

I'll pass on the shep fuck fest, though. Thanks anyway.

17. Actually, I've never been to a rodeo.
...and I lived here for 8 years. I guess I'm a pretty bad example of what others assume Denverites really are.:hi:

24. Denver has a pretty decent underground music scene...
There are plenty of underground metal shows around there all the time. I'm sure they are full of hicks. My favorite thing about Denver though is the fact that you can get primo shit for real cheap and shrooms are seriously all over the place.

9. And the thread derails.
Thank you so much for injecting your personal, can't move on with life crusade into this, completely unrelated topic. Yeah two different burning plants. One just made legal, the other you want the same city to ban. Nah! No hypocrisy there.:eyes:

8. Won't Federal drug laws still apply?
Isn't that how they get around the technicality for presrcibed medicinal use?

12. Yes, both Federal and State laws still apply.
From the Denver Post this morning:

"Even though voters approved Initiative 100, Denver police still will bring charges under state law, which carries a fine of up to $100 and a mandatory $100 drug-offender surcharge for possession of small amounts of marijuana, said Attorney General John Suthers."

I suppose they will tell the feds to leave Denver alone, like they did with California.
