Anniversary of re-election greeted with Bay Area, nationwide demonstrations

Activists across the nation will mark today's anniversary of President Bush's re-election with rallies calling for his removal from office.
"The World Can't Wait: Drive Out the Bush Regime" actions are planned for San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta and Chicago as well as dozens of other cities, college campuses and high schools, organizers say. People are being urged to walk out of work or school to demonstrate their resolve against the Bush administration.
Organizers intend today's events as the start of a societywide resistance movement against the president's environmental, civil rights and foreign policies, particularly the war in Iraq.
Joe Tougas of San Francisco, one of six World Can't Wait national steering committee members, wrote on the network's Web site that "there can be no greater enemy to clean air, clean water and peace than the Bush administration. That's why I was drawn to The World Can't Wait — because it certainly can't, and neither can I!"
