1. Nebraska Democrats have to make that decision.....

I strongly suggest they take this to a Committee and/or organize some grass roots action to confront this DINO.

If he is going to vote for Alito, then he has know room in our party. Besides I hate his hair.

4. There are a few DINOs
like Nelson and Jomentum, but even they are preferable to installing Rethugs...which I'm afraid would happen in NE if we don't have the incumbent.

Let's establish a majority before we start cleansing the party of DINOs

5. I disagree...
Better a DINO in Nebraska than a Republican. And a liberal Dem. won't win in Nebraska, so a DINO's all we got.

7. Nebraska Democrats
The party does not exist right now. They don't even have a candidate for Governor in a contested 2006 race. Pathetic. Calling Dr. Dean!

8. Careful. We don't want to lose a "D" in the Senate.
Edited on Wed Nov-02-05 04:33 PM by longship
Regardless how he votes, he's still a "D".

Putting opposition against Nelson could lose the seat for us altogether. We could be close on taking back the Senate in 2007. Clearly, our number one priority should be making the Dem caucus the majority caucus. It would be foolish to start targetting "D" candidates because they don't vote like we want them to and lose the chance to have control of the agenda, the committee chairmanships, and all the other majority benefits.

If there's a strong D to go against Nelson, and if Nelson is somehow weakened, primary opposition may be a wise move to make right now. But this is Nebraska, not New Jersey. I think we're fortunate to have a "D" senator from Nebraska, regardless of how he votes.

And I'm a liberal and I don't like D's supporting Alito either. But let's not throw the baby out with the bath water.

9. Exactly. Every D is one D closer to a majority...
We have to pick up six seats to get the majority, and that means we can't afford to lose a single one. For now, Nelson is the safe bet.

10. The major republicans in nebraska are his major contributors.
Republican challengers don't even stand a chance.
