Egg jokers blind teen, flee scene (in a Hummer H2 in upscale LI)

Sound like a group of Young Republicans out for kicks. I'd support a judge sending this bunch off to the Marines as grunts. Hope these clowns were filming themselves like the idiots did with the paintball guns.

A 13-year-old trick-or-treater was blinded in one eye when laughing Halloween pranksters hurled an egg at him from a Hummer in a tony Long Island town, cops said yesterday.

As police fanned out across Woodbury in search of the sports utility vehicle, the victim, an athlete and honor student, was racked with fear that he may never see out of his right eye again.

"They don't know if he will have permanent damage. There's no vision at all," said the victim's mother, who asked that her son's name not be printed.

The injured youth, who lives in Oyster Bay Estates and is an eighth-grader at South Woods Middle School in Syosset, was out with friends Monday when their fun night of trick-or-treating took an ugly turn.

<snip>

Police were searching last night for the silver Hummer H2 believed to belong to a local parent...

2. No way a carful of teens can keep their mouths shut.
Police should have no problem tracking them down, although I am sure there are many silver hummers - necessary to drive in the wilds of a "tony Long Island town". But let's not give them a choice between enlisting in the Army and jail time. The poor Iraqis have enough violence to deal with. These guys should do hard time, but they're probably still minors - and you know their parents have plenty of $$$$ to hire top criminal defense lawyers - no public defenders for their spoiled brats.

Part of me cannot agree with some dumb decision made by a teenager should have the effect on their lives that accompanies hard time.

However, I do understand that they may have permanently damaged another person through a grossly unnecessary, ludicrous and wrong act.

And I also agree that this is a glaring case of a group of spoiled brats (an understatement) doing something extremely petty, idiotic and ultimately costly. Those idiots do not deserve anything they have, and I can scarcely summon the sympathy I have shown for them earlier in the post.

....On a different note, rich jerks seriously hurting other people for no reason from the windows of their ridiculously excessive vehicles while others languish in poverty is quite the argument for re-distribution of wealth.

3. it's sad, but to ascribe a political atribute to teen prank
is just silly. the exact same thing happened with a group of my bother's friends one h'ween years back. the poor kid that threw the egg felt terrible. stupid shit hppens, but kids do stupid shit. i doubt seriously there was any malicous intent. but keep in mind there are people here that wanna give the vote to people this age. just sayin.

4. I think it was the Hummer, more than the act itself
that drew the accusation that the perpetrator was a Republican.

7. I do that too...
I think it is only natural when it comes to those vehicles. I would venture to say that the assumption has a very low error rate.

8. Exactly - the Hummer and location is what made me think
Edited on Wed Nov-02-05 06:30 PM by RamboLiberal
it was a bunch of Republican kids. I'm sick of those big-ass SUV's laying waste to the planet.

Most of us did stupid stuff when we were kids - but sometimes I think there are over-privaleged, rich, spoiled kids who have no regrets over hurting others. And it wouldn't surprise me the kid owns the Hummer. Like that nauseating 3 bear commercial for the Hummer's 3 models!

If they turn themselves in, then I'd feel more forgiving, especially if the parents let them take their lumps and not lawyer them up.

10. Long Island actually voted for Kerry
Although it is still purple with a blueish hue, it's not red.

5. I agree the attribution is wrong, but given the fact it was a Hummer

Where I live, most Hummer owners are rightwing morons.
