Predictions for the West Wing live debate
I think that this will be the debate where Santos really turns it around. I predict that Vinnick will get his ass kicked, and that he'll fumble questions about religion in politics, and thus alienate the religious right.

I think Santos will pull it out, but that it will be damn close, recount close, and that the story will play out as the 2000 election SHOULD have played out.

1. I wonder what will happen if someone makes a real major gaffe
You know, a gaffe that isn't in the suggested script. I agree that the election will probably turn out along the lines that you suggest above. I wonder if they would actually re-write future episodes if something unexpected happens.

2. Are they doing two different shows for each coast?
If so, please don't spoil it for Mountain time!

9. Apparently

Bradley Whitford has been doing promo for the episode and he talked about this on either Franken or Colbert's show and said how there will be one episode for the east and another for the west. LOL I think it was Franken who asked what if Alda choked on a bug: would the west coast people get to see that? ;) Whitford said they'd try to put it in.

3. God I hope you're right
If not, it's the last show on NBC I'll watch.
Did you participate in the Zogby poll?

If it turns out otherwise it will just show how delusional NBC is and how thoroughly republican it has become.
If I sound bitter, think of that piece of pentagon trash they're
peddling this year.E-Ring,Think: Russert,Matthews, Andrea Mitchell
Pete Williams, Scarborough,Carlson, Monica Crowley. Any others?

12. I feel the same way. Their viewers are probably way more liberal,
and we have had a democratic white house on WW the entire time. If they switched it, I think they'd suffer big time.

Then again, you want to hear something REALLY pathetic? I just shuttered in thought about this. My mom and sis watch WW. They are the kind of repubs that make you want to pull your hair out. They listen to Misinformation News and think they have it down. They do NOT understand any of the policy changes that have happened these past five years, they vote against their own best interests (they don't have ANY financial security) and very expensive LOUSY med. insurance, etc... you get the picture). They LOVE WW. OMG. They love the policies that Bartlett stands for and cheer him on. That is as IGNORANT as it gets. Holy crappers. Maybe the viewership isn't more liberal, it could very well include a bunch of dumb ass ignorant repubs. Now THAT'S pathetic.

I literally just creeped myself out. LOL... imagine watching this show with them? They cheer on liberal policy and vote republican and claim to understand politics. \

I should be embarrassed, but no one really knows me here, so at least you might be able to sympathize with me.

BTW, they live very far away from me. I do NOT watch this with them any longer, it's been a while.

16. OMG: that's about the most massive case of cognitive dissonance
I've ever been even Remotely close to.

My sympathies that you have previously had to experience it up close and very personal.

7. I'm so excited about the debate!
I'm about to log off and go and watch it. It's so exciting! :D I think Santos will do really well too from the commercials that have been airing. I think Vinick will probably do okay but Santos will come up on top.

8. Gossip Columnist Said It Would be Alan Alda
I hate to post this, because I know everyone will flame me. But last year one of those gossip columnists (female, I can't remember her name, Liz something?)interviewed Alan Alda. She said at that time that he would be joining the cast of The West Wing and that he would become president. I hope she was wrong or the writers changed their mind. Actually, I have been imagining something bizarre like a Vinnick-Santos combination, or some such thing. This series is known for surprises--it will be interesting. Anyway, I think if it's Vinnick, they will make the point that he is a moderate and point out the differences between what a moderate can be, versus the failed Bush administration's approach.

14. I mildly dislike him
Which is an improvement over how I feel about the Republican president.

He still should not have lied to that fundy whack job about judges. While he doesn't seem to be a PNACer, he still seems a little to neo-con for me.

13. I've got a feeling it will be Vinnick, also.
But, who knows? West Wing is famous for surprises. Maybe they'll do an American Idol and the viewers choose!

15. I promise if it's Vinnick
I will never watch WW again or NBC for that matter.
The coup will be complete. They have NBC completely.

17. Liz Smith??
That's the only "Liz" gossip columnist I can think of. She's usually pretty right-on... though I hope she is wrong with this one.

18. This season's probably the last.
So I think speculation about how each prospective presidential candidate would govern is pretty pointless.

Plus, I frequent a lot of exclusive West Wing boards who have monitored just about every interview since the characters have been cast, and there's been no real answer about who's going to win--though, I can tell you from spoilers that something that one of the candidates said in the debate tonight will come back to haunt him six or seven episodes down the road.
