Two grizzly bear cubs are seen in the Yellowstone National Park in this 1966 photograph. Protected for 30 years, grizzlies near Yellowstone National Park could become fair game after the Bush administration on November 15, 2005 took the first step to remove the bears from the U.S. endangered species list. Grizzlies are rebounding from a low of about 220 in 1975, when it was listed as threatened in the lower 48 states, to more than 600 now.

Maybe it is for that area, maybe not. But it sure isn't for the rest of the northwest. There's only 30-40 in a similarly large area in Montana, the Cabinets. So even if one would want to consider 600 recovered in Yellowstone, since other areas aren't recovered, it's a dangerous game to play with the overall grizzly population.

This has been an agenda item since the 90's. The agency has to show that the dollars it receives is worth something, and produces results.

They dont want to lose dollars but they have been slow rolling this for a decade.
