Need to rebut a co-worker: what were Clinton's lowest ratings?
I've got a moron at work telling me Bush's approval ratings aren't much lower than Clinton's worst.
To which I responded, "Are you insane?"

But I need a source.

2. That moron is probably right.
Early in the first term when the gays in the military thing was going on, I think Clinton was in the mid-to-lower 40's.

7. Of course the important thing is the trend. THe moron should look
at how Clinton fared over time vs Bush over time.

24. If I remember right at about that time
It was 36 which isnt that much higher than the dimson. I think it relevant though that you simply use second term numbers, this IS Bushs second term. That is a more informed poll since they have had more than four years to know the president.

18. Lowest Time 51, Only Zogby under 50, only in FIRST Zogby's.
Maybe you saw and internet poll, which depend more on daily internet traffic than a view of the people.

22. YOUR link wins, Spring 93 -Spring 96 had under 50's. 37 low, THEN, all up.
The more we knew Clinton, the more we liked Clinton.
The more we know Bush, the more we dislike Bush,
and, the less we like his party.

Thank you for looking up that link for me.

4. Clinton's approval NEVER went lower than 50%, actually I don't think
Edited on Thu Nov-17-05 11:05 AM by ET Awful
it ever went lower than 55%.

That puts him 20 points ahead of Shrub, even at his lowest.

edit: I'd forgotten that 2 week or so period noted below, which in the overall picture, is irrelevant.

6. The 45 days of tax increase and Health going no where had Clinton down to
37% in the Gallup - but in other polls he did not go below 41 or 44%.

And it was just those 2 months in the summer of 93.

8. Technically Clinton had lower ratings in '93 but...
Edited on Thu Nov-17-05 11:07 AM by CanOfWhoopAss
I think Bushes numbers are actually lower than what the polls are reporting. I think they either fix the numbers or they fix their poll demographics to keep Bushes numbers up. All those months Bush was in the low 40s they were just hoping something would happen that he could avoid the 30s. Now I think they are avoiding the 20s. I'll find the link and post it if I can.

Edit- No need I see you have been provided with the links.

13. and he answered "Yes", right?
Well, Clinton "hit the ground stumbling" if you recall. His approval rating dipped below 40% in the first two years. Then it got better, never dropping below the mid-50s in his second term.

See this pollkatz.com comparison of Clinton, Nixon, and Bush:

16. They were low early on
and *'s were headed down until 9-11. * had the great advantage of the news reporting being on his side. They haven't let all the stuff that has happened get reported where as with Clinton the repukes were on tv bashing him from the beginning. Clinton's policies worked but *'s have totally failed so unless he turns around and denounces things like tax cuts and brings the troops home * ain't going up like Clinton did.

17. The difference?
Clinton may (and many other presidents) may have had dips and spikes that went as low as Bush's approval numbers temporarily, but Bush's approval is consistently low.
