She has presided over countless births. So when Busch Gardens needed someone to give a C-section to a gorilla . . .

TAMPA - On a typical day, Dr. Catherine Lynch is the busy director of the division of general obstetrics and gynecology at the University of South Florida. The Tampa doctor teaches medical students and has a private practice in the USF Physicians Group.

Friday wasn't a typical day for Lynch.

"Yesterday was pretty wild," she said.

Literally.

She was one of three doctors from USF and Tampa General Hospital who delivered Busch Gardens' baby gorilla, the first born in the park in its 46 years.

Complications made it necessary to perform a caesarean section on Kishina, the 33-year-old gorilla mom.
