2. Another poster posted essentially the same post today
It should be on page 1, 2, or 3 of General Discussion.

Many people noted the Snopes link and that the attachment may have a virus.

6. Virus
There was a thread earlier and consensus was that:

1) this is a virus. Don't open the zip.

2) Considering they are pretending to be from the FBI and that is a federal crime, you could report them.

The exiled Prime Minister of Nigeria does.

20. Note also the lack of capitalization at the start of the first sentence.
The FBI's a little more professional than that.

Beware of ALL EMAIL that has attachments, especially from strangers, even if they claim to be the FBI.

18. The FBI doesn't email
If they wanted to investigate you or ask you questions about ANYTHING, they might email to make an appointment (that's might, more likely they'd call or just show up), but you'd do the answering in their office or they'd come to your home or office and show credentials.

27. FBI ALERTS PUBLIC TO RECENT E-MAIL SCHEME (February 22 , 2005)
For Immediate Release

FBI ALERTS PUBLIC TO RECENT E-MAIL SCHEME
E-mails purporting to come from FBI are phony

Washington, D.C. - The FBI today warned the public to avoid falling victim to an on-going mass e-mail scheme wherein computer users receive unsolicited e-mails purportedly sent by the FBI. These scam e-mails tell the recipients that their Internet use has been monitored by the FBI’s Internet Fraud Complaint Center and that they have accessed illegal web sites. The e-mails then direct recipients to open an attachment and answer questions. The attachments contain a computer virus.

These e-mails did not come from the FBI. Recipients of this or similar solicitations should know that the FBI does not engage in the practice of sending unsolicited e-mails to the public in this manner.

Opening e-mail attachments from an unknown sender is a risky and dangerous endeavor as such attachments frequently contain viruses that can infect the recipient’s computer. The FBI strongly encourages computer users not to open such attachments.

The FBI takes this matter seriously and is investigating. Users receiving e-mails of this nature are encouraged to report it to the Internet Crime Complaint Center via http://www.ic3.gov.

WASHINGTON - The Federal Bureau of Investigation issued an alert Monday about a scam involving unsolicited e-mails, purportedly sent by the FBI, that tell computer users that their Internet surfing is being monitored by the agency.

The users are told they have visited illegal Web sites and are instructed to open an attachment to answer questions.

The FBI did not send these e-mails and does not send any other unsolicited e-mails to the public, an agency statement said. As many harmful computer viruses are located in e-mail attachments, the FBI said it strongly encourages computer users not to open attachments from unknown recipients.

As in "pound-me-in-the-ass-prison." Whoever came up with that bright idea better never step foot on American territory, or come close enough to it to be knocked on the head and dragged across the border.

I'm sure the FBI is very angry.

ie: "there weren't any hijackers on 911, the jets were under 'global hawk' control (see rabbi zakheim) the wtc buildings were prepared for and professionally demo's (larry silverstein was taped saying so!) gee bush jr never won the 2k election, and 911 might have been part of the scheme to rob america blind by staging the illegal coup!! the fbi should arrest the entire bush gov. and the mass newsmedia management officials asap, cuz they've been committing treason for years, and will get plastic surgery etc when they know the cops are onto them! HURRY HURRY!"

Then, I just got another from some bogus website with "my password and logon" - same zip attachment.
We better watch out tonight!
