Rev Dobson's gang to pass out antigay balls at Macy's parade.
The balloons at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade won't be the only things filled with hot air this week in New York.

Antigay Colorado group Focus on the Family said Tuesday that its members plan to distribute 5,000 "stress balls" along the parade route to promote a Web site it operates that claims that homosexuality is a disorder that can be changed through faith. Visitors to the site, TroubledWith.com, who think they might be gay or lesbian are told, "You're not simply 'wired that way.'" In another section, visitors are told that being gay or lesbian can be prevented because "like other adult problems, homosexuality begins at home. Mom and dad are key players." Also to blame are porn, the media, and "seduction by peers."

The Web site also carries faith-based advice on topics ranging from eating disorders to depression.

Focus on the Family plans to run 30-second commercials in the New York market during The Oprah Winfrey Show and Dr. Phil. The group is already running ads on an electronic billboard in Times Square.

The conservative ministry appears to be in a desperate search for new, younger followers to tune in to the radio show by Focus founder James Dobson. Web site creator Steve Watters told the Associated Press that the number of listeners has not been growing in recent years and that most people who call for help are in their late 40s.

8. The Abramoff investigation
has already shown both Reed and Dobson to be involved in fleecing Indian tribes along with Abramson, Cormyn and a few other GOP luminaries. I think Dobson's days are severely numbered, even if the good people of NYC let him live through his peddling hate tomorrow.

Whenever I'm tempted to wish stuff on these guys, I have to stop and ask myself what is worse, looking at them or BEING them? That generally puts things into perspective. Yes, they suck the air out of the room and joy out of the hearts of their followers. But just think of what it must be like to parade around in their skin. Then take a bath and be grateful.

50. Well, just found this
Abramoff Used Network of Evangelicals And Bush Appointee To Lobby For His Client. According to The Washington Post, "Abramoff arranged for Dobson and Reed to pressure federal officials to reject the Jenas' bid on anti-gambling grounds. He and his partners drafted anti-Jena letters that were then signed by congressional leaders, some of whom have received thousands of dollars in donations from tribes represented by Abramoff. One ally inserted language opposing the casino into a bill late in the legislative process." http://www.democrats.org/a/2005/10/george_w_bush_a_1.php

and then this link has ALL the emails from the investigation into the affair - it was posted by someone here Nov. 4 or 5 when the Scanlon/wacko memo surfaced at Salon:

http://www.chris-floyd.com/jack/

I would LOVE to read it, but each page takes 5 minutes for my creaky computer to download...

66. i didn't say hurt, i said incapacitated and that could be several things
for example, lets say he's having another Justice fundie Sunday right, and he gets up and he starts talking and all of a sudden he's overcome with explosive diarrhea, it happens so suddenly that he doesn't even have the cramps to warn him, how about something like that?

I really wouldn't wish actual pain on anyone, embarrassment, yes.

13. Clueless people
My aunt raised her son with her partner back in the 1950s. They were both previously married to the opposite sex.

My daughter's significant other was also previously married and has a son and a daughter she is raising. They both take the kids on a LOT of "family" type outings, including the Thanksgiving Day Parade.

My daughter's best friend, also gay, is living with a gay, divorced woman who has a son and a daughter. Her ex-husband built an extension onto their house so she and her partner and the kids will have a place to live. The ex and his new wife live in the main house.

Gays don't have kids? Focus on the Family is going to know WHO at this parade is in living in a "traditional marriage"? They might just get the SURPRISE of their lives.

30. Will I be flamed if I say that I honestly believe..
Dobson and ilk are repressed homosexuals? I cannot imagine being so preoccupied with the subject unless there is an attraction at some level.

REACTION FORMATION

"Reaction formation is really quite an interesting defense mechanism in that the individual manifests behaviors that are totally in opposition to what the individual is actually feeling. The purpose of this contradictory behavior is to protect the self from the knowledge that one may have dangerous desires. These desires are often in conflict with the morality (superego) of the individual...It occurs among homophobic individuals who feel the need to harm others whose sexual orientation seems to be different but unconsciously is the same. Interestingly, reaction formation and rationalization seem to work in tandem in some individuals. I have heard "gay bashers" say that their violence against gays is doing the "Lord's work." Very often the crusaders of public morals are those who are most attracted to the issue that they wish to remove from the public domain. Obviously, this removal would reduce their unconscious fear of losing control and indulging in their desire. By crusading, the individual has the opportunity to become immersed in the dreaded evil while rationalizing that he or she is helping humanity."

his organization should be changed to "Focus on Sex" instead of "Focus on the Family." All they care about is sex. When did Jesus care about sex? He didn't! He cared about helping the poor and taking care of the elderly and the Pharasiee's. Only thing close to sex he talked about was divorce and adultery. Does James Dobson talk about all the divorce and adultery in this country? None that I've heard!

55. Young people don't really care about this
The conservative ministry appears to be in a desperate search for new, younger followers to tune in to the radio show by Focus founder James Dobson. Web site creator Steve Watters told the Associated Press that the number of listeners has not been growing in recent years and that most people who call for help are in their late 40s.

The vast majority of the kids I know, about two hundred of them at an urban, largely-minority, inner-city high school -- DON'T GIVE A RAT'S ASS ABOUT WHO'S GAY AND WHO'S NOT. They may say "oh, that's gay" or "don't be such a fag," and even directly talk smack about homosexuals, but for the most part, members of the generation coming up seem to be a hell of a lot more tolerant than anything I ever experienced (i.e., my own school district was still segregated when Reagan was president! And for the record, I'm not all that old myself).

These kids, in fact, know a hell of a lot more about racism, prejudice, and/or bigotry than most of the people here will ever know.

While I would never advocate any kind of deliberate violence against anyone, if some guy/gal happened to beat the holy living shit out of one of these Reverand Dobson shitheads, I wouldn't be too upset. I've still got enough Texas in me to let me know when someone's got it coming to them.

The NY - and US - gay community should counter, in some way, I think.

It would be cool if people just refused them. Offered someting to the the holy ones instead. Or took the balls and did bad things with them.
Something to confront and manipulate.

Definitely something to confront and manipulate.

Praise Jesus and pass the brass knuckles.

It's astonishing what people will admit when they believe that they have a sympathetic audience. What follows is an excerpt from James Dobson's (director and Führer of Focus on the Family) book. In summary, it's his own account of savagely beating his 12 pound dog because it wanted to sleep in the wrong part of the house. No, really.

>What developed next is impossible to describe. That tiny dog and I had the most vicious fight ever staged between man and beast. I fought him up one wall and down the other, with both of us scratching and clawing and growling and swinging the belt. I am embarrassed by the memory of the entire scene. Inch by inch I moved him toward the family room and his bed. As a final desperate maneuver, Siggie backed into the corner for one last snarling stand. I eventually got him to bed, only because I outweighed him 200 to 12!
Let me make sure all the details are clear here. Siggie is a 12 pound dog. The dog wanted to sleep outside of his crate. Dobson brooks no desire contrary to his own, so he savagely beats the dog with a belt.

What's the purpose of recounting this episode? (I mean, this is the sort of behavior of which most any normal person would be horribly ashamed.) OH... it's in his manual for HOW TO RAISE A CHILD. <

72. That dog should have nipped his nuts off!
Seriously, I have had a wiener dog from the time I was a small child in an apartment in Germany until today. They are very loving and loyal. They are also very smart. Treat them with love and respect and they'll do the same for you.

How sick that, that bastard would do that to that poor little guy and then have the audacity to brag about it. What is the statutue (sp?) for animal cruelty?
