BBV- Bob Ney, HAVA, and HR2239
I found a note I had made some time ago.

I have down that the two main authors of HAVA were Bob Ney-R of Ohio, and Steny Hoyer-D of Maryland.

I find it more then curious that Ney is one of the principals blocking Holt's 2239.

Might just be ego, not wanting to admit, like most of Congress, that HAVA was bad legislation. Well intentioned perhaps, but read the doggone thing, it's so tied to special interests it's a rats nest.

Ney, connected to both, also from Ohio, the land of Diebold.

I don't know about Hoyer although the Maryland Diebald debacle is interesting.

We need some background, who is funding these guys, then see if there are ties to the defense industry, Cisco (Sysco? I never get that right) who is behind VoteHere and Senator Ensign of Nevada who had an amendment dealing with auditing to the HAVA bill.

You guys are awesome when you get going. And I'm assuming Paranoid Pat can help archive any information you dig up? (If not Pat, who's doing that?)

(And I posted elsewhere on Dodd of Connecticut, who is also involved with HAVA in some way. He may not be a shining light)

We need a "swarm" of research right now. Might dig up nothing, might dig up a lot. Connections....

2. Let the massive parallel browsing begin!

Sorry, I just saw this. I'm on it!

You're right, I archive everything I can but it doesn't hurt to have backup. :)

I'll see what I can dig up.

On Edit:
The first thing I did was look for background info to refine my search. I went to Google and did a search for "Bob Ney", HAVA, sponsors and the very first link is this,

***MEDIA RELEASE***
File Format: PDF/Adobe Acrobat - View as HTML
... Ney and Hoyer are the chief sponsors of the new ... the country are grateful to Congressmen
Bob Ney and Steny ... away." The Help America Vote Act (HAVA), signed into ...
www.nass.org/HAVAfunding_pr_91703.pdf - Similar pages

Of course, NASS (National Association of Secretaries of State) is one of the groups that R. Doug Lewis and the Election Center helped found to pull this off! Now why would the NASS be doing the press release?

4. I am still looking for a simple answer that I can get my head around
for our public officials who keep pushing unaudited voting.

In a nutshell, how does this happen? No problem, right, you'll have a sound byte that encompasses the whole problem in 5 minutes?

Just kidding. But it's been the hardest big blob to conceptualize in this whole blobzilla.

7. Well Bev, the more I look the more worried I get......
....this has been carefully setup over a long period of time to give the appearance of having broad based backing. If you dig deep enough in any area, it leads straight back to our good friends R. Doug Lewis, Poppy Bush, Carlyle Group, etc.

What do you know about Election Line.org?
I found out who is behind the site, electionline.org is published by the Election Reform Information Project, administered by the University of Richmond, and supported by The Pew Charitable Trusts

I did a WhoIs lookup for their site and found this,

and then checked out their hosting service and found these listings under customers,

The Carlyle Group
Established in 1987, The Carlyle Group is a private global investment firm that originates, structures and acts as lead equity investor in management-led buyouts, strategic minority equity investments, equity private placements, consolidations and buildups, and growth capital financings.

Electionline
Electionline.org, produced by the Election Reform Information Project, is the nation’s only non-partisan, non-advocacy website providing up-to-the-minute news and analysis on election reform.

Just another coincidence?

9. NASS and HAVA
I don't know that NASS was founded by The Election Center, but they sure do its bidding.

If you wanted to control voting in the United States, you would get control and one heck of a lot of influence over NASS.

Interesting.....very interesting.

Will have to see who was President of NASS at the time and who headed up any elections/voting committe they might have.

5. Nothing on him at opengov at MIT
You get this:

Robert William 'Bob' Ney OH, 18th Republican FleetBoston Financial 49

But all the info, such as campaign contributions etc, is not accessible when you click on the picture (first time I found an error on that site).

In any case, if he is one of those blocking Holt, that's a reminder of the "Ohio delivering votes to Bush", no ?

6. I did an OpenSecrets.org search on Diebold
A lot of donations to the NRSC, NRCC, RNC, Voinovich, and DeWine, but nothing to Ney or any other representative.
