This PISSES me off - PLEASE put me in touch with this creep
Edited on Sat Nov-26-05 08:58 PM by im10ashus
I am online in a gay chat room (all innocent chat with friends on the West coast, I assure you) when some creep IM's me with a picture of Jesus and tells me how my "homosexual ways are sending me straight to hell" and I was like :wow:.

His profile showed me he was from Vatican City. Yeah! Right! The moderators removed him as soon as I brought this to their attention.

First: I believe spirituality should be a private issue and NOT the business of someone else, regardless of their beliefs.

Second: If I want some good old fashioned homosexual bashing, I will go back home to Indiana. Until then, leave me the hell alone here in NYC and don't tell me your life is superior to mine.

When I responded that I have no association with the Christian belief or it's supposed denigration of my "life style" I was told I was being angry and needed the help of the Lord.

I would LOVE to get in touch with this sick ticket and tell them exactly what I find wrong with these bible thumpers who feel it's okay to condemn other people for their "life style choices" and that they are no better than the radical jihadists in their fundamental beliefs. As if I would have "chosen" to be attacked all my life for simply living my life as who I am.

Well, here is the link that was graciously provided to me by this most likely closeted person.

http://www.scripturecatholic.com/

and here is the owner of the website.

http://www.scripturecatholic.com/john_salza.html

Of course there's no way of contacting them other than via email. I would rather get them on the phone and let them know exactly how I feel about being condemned from the Christian-right for far too long. Anyone hear of this cat?

1. You Know What's More Telling?
Is that they seeked you out....

I'd say they were obsessive self-loathing sexually frustrated stalkers. They hide behind the bible.

2. Oh yes.
Agreed wholeheartedly. But now I want to tell him/her/it in person that I don't need to hide behind a keyboard to "preach" MY message. Which would involve NOT preaching to others. I am just incensed.

4. I can understand your anger. It seems like there is no place
where one can escape the judgement of these self-appointed guardians of truth and morality, is there? But I wonder what you might accomplish by contacting somebody who obviously believes that his God smiles more broadly upon him when he shoves his unwanted message in your face. I married into a family of these nutcases, and one thing has become clear over the years: anything you say will be considered proof of your sinful nature, while everything they say brings them a step closer to their glorious reward. In other words, your indignation is their spiritual food. Why feed the wolves? Again, though, I truly empathize with you!

5. So I can have a real conversation.
I want to hear his/her/its arguments for what gives them the right to condemn other people when there are so many passages in their "bible" that talks about modesty, praying alone, and not condemning others. I don't go around preaching about the gay lifestyle. What gives them the right to do so to me and others? AND in a gay forum?

9. I consider these people cultists
They are brainwashed to "spread the word" and they cannot reason. They just hurl out what they have been told and cannot think on their own. So, even if you did have a discussion with one of them, it would go nowhere. It's like religious freaks going door to door trying to hurl their message to anyone who will listen. It's sick and twisted and I will not even listen to them when they approach my doorstep. I'm sorry that you have been bothered by them.

question! But I still think you are going to give them an opportunity to feel holier-than-thou, and you will get no satisfaction. At least, this has been my experience time after time. But if it makes you feel better, by all means do what you must!

8. I tried.
But there comes a time in one's life where one must stop cowering in a corner and come out swinging. I am not going to stop being who I am because someone thinks I should be different. I have pretty much had it with the religious-right and their pushing their beliefs onto me and my people. I understand what you are saying, but with all due respect, the gloves have come off and the hair has come down.

Is to feel better. NOT! I am pretty certain that there is only so much crap one can take before one has had enough with this proselytizing. I don't see the Jewish religion being shoved down our throats. Why is it that Christian people feel it's okay to shove their religion down our throat?

Jewish fundamentalists are just as motivated against gays. I don't know if they search them out on the internet to bully and evangelize to them, but they can worse in other ways:

74. Jewish fundies are really only interested in reaching other Jews...
...and leave everybody else alone. At least that's been my experience.

Judaism is not a religion that goes out of its way to convert people who were not born Jewish. Usually people who convert do so because of marriage, and it's not all that simple to do.

Fundamentalism by its very nature is rigid, though, and harsh on those who won't or can't conform -- whether Christian, Jewish, or Muslim.

As for the DUer who started this thread -- give yourself a day or two to cool off. It's a good thing to come to DU. You have lots of friends here.

As for tracking someone down for a personal confrontation -- I don't know if anyone has mentioned safety yet, but it might not be safe to do that. If you can find your wingnut, he can find you too.

80. Well, in my link two posts above we have violence from them...
Besides the 1 guy who stabbed several people in the gay parade, there were 200 Jewish protesters against the gay parade.

They apparently have a problem every year over this and it's a big political issue.

Here's a better article on the circumstances than the last one.

But I know you when you're mad and I think you could get him to pay attention, im10ashus! Also , why do they call themselves apologists? That's hysterical!

How do you debunk that myth if you're a devout Catholic but your knowledge of Scripture is spotty? How do you get to the truth if you're a fervent non-Catholic but your understanding of Catholic Church teaching is shaky? (How do you do that if it's downright inaccurate?)

The Biblical Basis for the Catholic Faith is written for both audiences. In a non-confrontational manner, author John Salza quotes only from the Bible to explain the basic doctrine of the Catholic Church. Chapter after chapter focuses on doctrinal "hot spots" including sola Scriptura, Tradition, papal infallibility, the seven sacraments, Mary and the saints, justification, salvation, and purgatory.

Here is a book that not only proves that the Catholic Faith is Biblical, but also that Catholicism is Bible Christianity par excellence. Here is a book that makes a thoughtful and welcome gift for a family member or friend who has questions about the Catholic Church.

256 pages, paperback, Our Sunday Visitor Spring 2005.

61. It COULD be one of his whack job people stalking online.
But who knows. It was quite the little profile they put together too. Replete with the pictures of Jesus and the Virgin Mother. It was quite disturbing to be singled out and harassed in such an overt manner. Thank god the mods there are as attentive as here. I was so incensed. It's not enough that I had to grow up with that mentality. Moving from Indiana wasn't enough I guess.

56. Damn I hate fundies/christo-fascists
I wonder how many of them are patrolling chat rooms for divorcees and telling them how sinful they are? Effing hypocrites.

The problem is that in our current political climate these scum have all of the financial and social support they need to keep up their evil behavior. Until the liberal Christians, people of other faiths and non-religious rise up against them en-masse they will continue to grow bolder and more dangerous.

60. I agree, Buffy.
My mom is a liberal Christian and a deaconess of her church. The same church where I was baptized in what seems like an eternity ago. She would NEVER pretend to tell someone how to live their life. She is as accepting of me and my partner as she is any of her children. So I know there's still hope. Albeit a glimmer, but hope.

I'm so glad for that -- it sounds like she gave you the basis you need for a healthy belief in yourself.

63. What a rude person
I'm sorry this guy bothered you. I'm Christian and I would never think of bothering someone like that. This guy was just looking for trouble it seems. He obviously just cares more about website hits or whatever instead of saving people. And to me when people bother you like that it is a turn off.

67. Yeah.
I was raised as a Christian. And although I don't follow that dogma anymore, I am normally respectful of other people's faith and beliefs. I for one don't feel I need to be saved from anything or by anyone. :-)

68. dude is seriously pinging off the charts! total gay face
is that seriously him? i'd expect another total ganon/guckert thing here. i'm getting nipple clamp fetishist vibe, with an unhealthy outlook on BDSM foreplay.

think his safeword is "Jesus!"? nah, probably doesn't believe in safety words -- it'd be too close to contraception and would kill off the unborn or some stupid shit.

And then you come along.

Seriously. You are right on with your observation. Nipple clamps indeed. I would almost suspect one of those little cilice things that Asscroft wears.

72. well, i guess so close to advent one must purgate for the coming...
one needs a clean, and apparently chafed raw, slate when turning tricks for the 'coming of baby jesus'... or whatever the altar-ed boys are calling it now in that abbatoir this closeted freak calls his 'confessional room.'

hey, i was raised catholic, i get a special dispensation to talk like this. you get a laminated card and everything. they have this nifty long word on mine, let's see, h-e-r-e-t-i-c...

70. Sounds like you were already in touch with him.
Your best opportunity to talk with him has passed.

Next time one of these guys does this, say "yea, Id like to chat with you about this...can we discuss via phone?"...then let'm have it.

Unless it was a hit and run of course, but I didnt get that impression.

71. Yeah.
In fact, it happened so quickly, I barely had time to pick my jaw up off the floor. I mean, it's one thing to be singled out in my daily life; it's quite another to be singled out in a gay chat room.

Nothing like having the face of Jesus suddenly appear on your laptop out of nowhere with the message of hate attached. Pretty bizarre in my experience. I was just glad the "moran" was kind enough to send his website address before the mods stepped in.

It's a strength I have that people close to me have come to admire. I don't put up with BS lightly. Not especially from a complete stranger.

77. Hate speech has thoroughly infected public discourse.
And, the haters have become emboldened. We've got to get cracking on this. I swear, set up a "Countering Hate Speech" seminar at the Learning Annex or something. :nuke:

78. It's must be addressed immediately when hate is spoken.
My friend Jon in San Fran taught me something a few years ago. We were living in Chicago at the time and someone rode by on a bike just as we were kissing each other goodbye on the cheek. This bike calls us "fags" and Jon says "Yep, big ones." I thought it was wonderful. I've had the displeasure of having to use it twice since that wonderful day. Once more in Chicago and once here in NYC.

Now, if two men were kissing each other goodbye on the cheek in Europe, nobody would think twice about it. These two are friends or acquaintances who are saying hello or goodbye. My Euro friends, all of them straight, ALWAYS greet me with a kiss. I am not sure why we American's have so much resentment toward people who are different from us. It goes the same for race, class, social status and religion. We are this very young country with so much to learn.

83. If your homosexual ways are sending you to hell...
Then I have to say that you're missing out on lots of other sinful opportunities.

Clearly you're not trying hard enough, if all they've got on you is the old "thou shalt not offend homophobic zealots" line.

Eat some shellfish, or shake hands with a menstruating woman. That'll really set them off.
