A post from the health insurance trenches
My co-worker's son woke up yesterday with no feeling on the left side of his face or in his left arm. The ER diagnosed stress and told him to come back in a week for a CAT scan if he wasn't feeling better. The kid is 21 and not a student. He has no job and no coverage at all. Talk about falling through the cracks!

1. My bro broke his thumb the evening before Turkey Day
Edited on Fri Dec-02-05 08:19 AM by tyedyeto
Before heading to the ER, he called his insurance co. who told him they would not cover the visit and to go to his regular doctor. He couldn't see the regular DR until Monday, who then sent him to a specialist. Now, he will be having surgery since the fracture had already begun to heal. Another case of the insurance companies dictating health care in this country.

I hope that your co-worker's son will be fine and that his condition will not worsen between now and the time when he can get a real diagnosis.

2. I'm at the bottom of that crack
I need medical attention that I'll never get with no insurance and no possibility of EVER getting it again.

Thank you Bill Frist!

3. I wish he would run and try and get any kind of coverage
right now. It is hopefully nothing serious, but it could be something more, like MS (multiple sclerosis) which is a very expensive disorder to diagnose and treat. An MRI, not a CAT scan, would be needed to rule this out. I hope all goes well for him and that it is nothing at all. We should not have this awful state of medical insurance.

5. I agree with Mend
I have MS and this COULD, possibly, be an MS exacerbation. Not to scare him, but get any job with health insurance as MS, or whatever, is unbelievably expensive to treat.

I am lucky to have good health insurance.

4. Buck up and stop whining. This is BushAmerica.
What do you expect from "The World's Only Superpower"? When you are dictating to the world, you can't afford luxuries such as an up-to-date infrastructure, decent schools, or a national health plan. Such things are for lesser nations.

Bombs away! We're NUMBER ONE!

6. I hope he'll be OK.

It really bites that this country has no national health plan.

BUt of course we have to have these imperial wars. :sarcasm:
