And posted it on the Web. The result of the letter was that the EU dropped its plan for an inter-governmental oversight body for the Internet and we have ended up with the status quo (ICANN, US government control). ...US Dept of State ought to be smoothing feathers (AND coming clean!) and they arrive with their blackjacks out. Bolton does the same at the UN, and on and on...same old movie since 2000.

This has been going on for some time. Its not clear that the letter is genuine.

The consensus of those who were there and outputs, the outcome of the conference was more of a "No action this time, but we will continue to think about it".

What is being proposed is *bad* for the Internet and being pushed by those who would control the flow of information. I and others have posted on this here before.
