For the Holidays-XM radio deals
I've posted this before, but I wanted to post it again before the holiday.I have bought 4 different radios for my family<and myself> for Christmas. The radios are either free or very reduced. You have to buy three months of service in advance, and keep your service for 6 months total.I love Air America, and Public Radio...as well as the great music.

4. I love my XM 2Go My Fi. It's so easy to use.

I can take it in the car and it plays through my FM stero wirelessly.

I can take with me on a walk and use like a walkman.

And it fits into a cradle and hooks up to my home stereo system.

5. Have you had reception problems with it?
I've been wanting one, but some reviews I read said that the reception was really crappy. I have a Roady2 and don't have any problems, but I was wanting something that I could use without having to carry around antennas and power cords and such.

Santa's just itching to bring me one of these!!!

6. I guess it depends on where you live.
If your area has a lot of "repeater towers" to boost the satellite signal, you will not have to worry much about reception when you're on the go. I must have lucked out, because I have very little in the way of reception trouble. There are a few spots here and there where I can't pick up a signal, but in the vast majority of the cases it's because I'm in a WiFi hotspot or some other place where another frequency might be interfering with reception. I've never had to use the "head antenna" that comes with the MyFi at all.

If I were you, I'd tell Santa to scratch that itch.

8. I guess I'm concerned about the
portable antenna. I want to use it mostly as a carry-around unit, like a regular radio. I've also heard good things about the Pioneer unit.

7. No reception problems whatsoever.
In my office building, not even near a window, I can get reception enough to wear it. It only drops reception when the elevator doors shut and I'm inside.

As soon as they open, I have reception again.

9. I live in the sticks...
the only problems seem to be with metal roofs...we have the delphi and the tao units...both have great reception with the home and car adaptors.we don't use it as a portable as much.

And I'm in Southern California.

And there are plenty of frequencies to go to if there is a problem.

34. And I take it from car to car ..
I have one, and am VERY happy with it. I love it!

As I've discussed with Rosco T., my kid and I fight over it (even though it was MY birthday present).

I offered her one for her birthday; she went with an MP3 player.

So, things have been good lately.

someone else turned me on to it...for best buy employess and friends and family..the thing is,the radios are super cheap with this deal, and I thought it would be good for people who don't get air america in their area.you are comitted to paying three months subscription up front, and staying on for 6 months, but then,if you don't like it ,you can quit.

26. Not When Live Radio IPOD Streaming Happens
Guess I must be old fashioned...I still like local radio...where you hear local weather, news, sports and traffic...even some politics now and then...not the cookie-cutter stuff on satellite...and then have to pay $130 or more a year for it? I'll pass...stick with Internet Radio.

Wi-Fi Radio will soon it'll stream to IPODs and Cellphones...giving thousands of choices...not just the ones XM or Sirius feels are worthy or pay to be on their systems.

28. Sorry...No Sale
I have a friend whose had both XM and Sirius and has had lots of troubles with both...and still pays for the pleasure of moronic outsourced customer service people. I think I'll pass.

I get plenty of local progressive talk on my radio. Besides various college and university stations, BBC news and a local AAR affiliate, I get all the Pacifica stations, KGO, KIRO and a ton of other Internet and local progressive talk stations. Sorry, I'm not interested in supporting the further corporate destruction of local radio.

32. Plenty To Hear In Chicago
I enjoy scanning programs from Wisconsin Public Radio, WNUR at Northwestern University, WLUW from Loyola and WZRD from Northeastern that carries a wide assortment of Pacifica programs.

While the local AAR station is terrible and now signs off at 5pm, I catch them at night from Cincinatti...so there's plenty on my radio. I also enjoy checking into local stations...some are inane, but they give an insight into what's going on in this country that the corporate media doesn't portray. It used to be every town had such a station, now they're farer and fewer between...thanks to corporate media and now satellite radio. I think I'll keep my money locally, thank you.

33. you are fortunate...
even in the Dallas metroplex-Air America is unreliable on 910 AM,and NPR tends to take a moderate approach. The other AM talk radio is definitely very NeoCon...Mike gallagher,Glenn beck, and -of course-O'Reilly

18. We just bought XM because of your last thread
before Thanksgiving. Someone there tipped us off to the CompUSA Roady 2 receiver deal (free with the $30 web rebate) and we just got the service a few days ago. It's one of the best things we've ever done and so far, I think it's well worth the monthly subscription fee.

The one disappointment is that XM delays Mike Malloy 3 hours to air Alan Colmbes 7-10PM PT. Other than that, I can't say enough great things about XM.

Many thanks! Now we've got Air America everywhere we go, thanks to you.

20. Exactly! We use it in our studio and at home at night as well
because the sound quality is unbelievable, even through crummy speakers. Randi Rhodes sounds completely different. She sounds great to begin with on car speakers, but on XM, she sounds like she's sitting there in the room (or the car) talking with you personally.

The 30 presets are incredible, too. The first thing I do when I get in the car is play the San Francisco traffic and weather channel.

XM in the car is a lot like listening to FM stereo in downtown L.A. Great sound quality from a diverse selection of some of the best radio stations in the country.

Only, XM is still a lot better in terms of sound, receptions, number of stations, and far fewer commercials. Some of the remnant commercial slots are actually used for news instead of advertising. That was a surprise, too.

22. I really wanted to stress the low prices, since most people...
are on a budget these days. The units range from free to 99.00,with 38.85 for a three month subscription.I got one of the skifi2 units for my car,one of the boom baxes for my mom,a taq for my boyfriend, and a delphi all in one for my son.I know the rules say three units, but they will let you get however many(with a different subscription for each unit)you can combine them after 6 months...
