We need volunteers to help with Campaign Underground 2006!
Now that the year is drawing to a close, it's time for Democratic Underground to start gearing up for the 2006 elections. As part of this effort, we are looking for volunteers to help collect and organize information for Campaign Underground 2006.

We're going to do this project a little differently this time than we did two years ago. The DU Admins felt that the database we set up in 2004 was too limited and too difficult to maintain. This year, we have decided to set up Campaign Underground as a collection of Open Edit threads in our new Research Forum. An Open Edit thread works kind of like a wiki; They permit all registered DU members to work collaboratively to collect and edit information. Once you all familiarize yourselves with how Open Edit threads work, it should be much easier to update and maintain Campaign Underground than it was last year. For a detailed explanation of how to edit an Open Edit thread, please read this topic.

This is a big project, and we're going to need lots of people to help out. Fortunately, the job won't be quite as difficult as last year, because we can copy a lot of the information we collected in 2004 into the new format without having to start from scratch. When you update your state, make sure that you check Campaign Underground 2004 so you don't have to do the same work that someone else has already done.

I will create the templates for all the 50 states, and I will link each of them directly from the Top of the Research Forum and the Campaign Underground 2006 page so you can easily find the page you are looking for.

Once the templates are set up, you all can start filling in the blanks. We're going to start by collecting political and campaign information. We need a whole bunch of volunteers to sign up to collect information for each state. If you are interested in helping out with a particular state, please post in this thread with the name of the state in the title of your post (or you can edit your name directly into the Campaign Underground 2006 page, below the state you wish to help out with).

Once you have signed up for your state, find the page for that state and start filling in the blanks. Links to all the state pages will be available at the Top of the Research Forum and on the Campaign Underground 2006 page.

Thank you in advance for all of your help on this project.

Skinner, EarlG, Elad

46. That stem cell legislation
is going to ruin the local economy in KC. Baby Blunt knows that. He opposes making stem cell research illegal. For once, he is taking the correct side of an issue.

But I don't think it's done for. They are making a lot of noise about this issue here. Stowers Institute has threatened to pull out of KC if stem cell research becomes illegal in MO. That would be a HUGE loss and our local politicians know that. There is one nutty one in Lee's Summitt - Matt Bartle - but I believe the rest of them are with the governor on this. So don't give up on it yet.

Bartle is a nutcase. But out here in the heartland, everyone seems to agree w/ him. And you are right-for once Blunt is on the right side of the issue and I hate saying that about him.

I'm not very good at this stuff, but I'll will certaintly give it my best shot--So, we find out who is running in 2006, what positions, and fill in the blanks, and then add action orgainizations/events/volunteer work as we find out? I get stuff from Move.on (right now it's a petition drive for an Iraq pullout)And other groups-- including local door to door campaining during the last election, is that what we're looking for? Anyway, I can start today or tommorrow.
(I'm pretty computer illiterate, but I can muddle through the instructions, I hope.)

I'm not as computer literate as lot on this forum:-( but I will do the happy dance if we can get rid of Gibbons, both he and his wife. For the U.S. House races there is a heading that says "key races", but there are only the first three discricts listed there. Does that mean that You're only interested in the information for the first three districts?

76. You should list all the races.
If your state has one district, then only list one. If it has 30, then list all thirty.

Then note the key races in the appropriate spot.

68. I can offer Political Flash Attack ads for the Web
It's basically what I do (when not making films, like my latest "Rove's War" - a 2 DVD Set with the Definitive Chronology of the Plame Outing, which I researched for a year), so it's not a State offering, but an offer to help with what I do best..

Here's something I posted on the DU (and am sending out everywhere) that I think is helpful to the cause of keeping the PlameGate subject in the Public Eye, reach more people with humor, and with Fitz looking like he's going to Indict Rove within the month I believe it's important:

****************
Decorate YOUR FITZMAS TREE - an Interactive Animation, my Best Yet!

MERRY FITZMAS! I wanted a Damn Fitzmas Tree ever since I heard the term invented RIGHT HERE, and NOW by god I have one, and you can too..

I have labored long and hard on this Interactive Animation (Flash - you may need the most recent flash plugin on your system - at least 6 I think, here's the Macromedia link for player/plugins: http://www.macromedia.com/downloads/#players ) - WHERE YOU can actually DECORATE YOUR OWN FITZMAS TREE, by dragging and dropping Ornaments and dropping them on the FITZMAS TREE - if an Ornament sticks to your "hand" it may be because of the slimy people encased within, just give it another mouse click on the tree to shake it off

There are two Flashes that interact with each other - one is the Fitzmas Tree itself, with a box FULL of decorations, the decorations being the Subjects of Indictments, Investigations, etc - something your Right Wing brother-in-law might be interested in knowing, lots of fun facts

If you click (click all over the page, lots of surprises on it) on the TITLE's of the Flashes you can go between the Tree itself, and another Flash that will load up with all the Decorations and an explanation of WHO they are, and WHAT they did.. for folks that don't know much about the Plame Outing they can get educated on the Ornaments and then click on back to the Tree and Decorate the Hell out of it

Here's two links, the first goes to the Fitzmas Tree itself, but like I said, you can click to the other Flash for more info, or a pal can get more info and Trim the Tree after.. Try this one First:

http://www.tbtmradio.com/flash/merryfitzmas.swf

or you can check out the Ornaments (but maybe miss some surprises where the Presents are) at This Link:

In case you're wondering what that building is in the background, it's the HAGUE, I thought it rather appropriate - and the guys in ORANGE, well, I think you'll recognize them

So ENJOY if you will, and do me a favor, keep this KICKED Please - a labor of love, but no sleep for about Three days either.. Pass it around to anyone you think might be interested, but Please also come back here and Let me Know what YOU think of this work, I scrambled brains doing this

And don't forget to open the presents under the FITZMAS TREE, I wrapped them special just for YOU..

*******************

So if I can be of help let me know, I owe the DU, as do a lot of others of keeping my sanity in these dark Republican days :)

Thanks for taking the bull by the horns,

Symbolman

77. At the moment there is no official deadline.
But my hope was that we could have most of it done by the end of January.
