1. Fiction is too close to the truth sometimes
Remember when he had health problems on the West Wing?

It's eerie when life parallels art.

7. I always thought he was the emotional heart of West Wing
it's conscience as well. I wish we had someone like him in the White House for real.

He was a damn fine actor. I'm very upset.

20. Yeah, I learned some things from his character
when they ran several stories regarding his addiction. It has helped me understand my sister-in-law's problem with alcohol.

21. Damn! Damn! Damn!! Damnit All to Hell!
I loved his acting...he was a real sweet man with serious chops.

I SWORE To somebody back when they were leading up to Leo McGarry's heart attack that he didn't look so hot, and they tried to talk me out of it, that it was just makeup and lighting for his character's sake.

I'm telling you now, he'd been ill a long time...that much is obvious.

So sad...He and his character on TWW will be much missed.

23. I have always thought that these blogs and all the people
on them should be able to send all our thoughts to the family, so they have some idea of how may admirers these actors had. I will miss him, great actor.   I think I'll look on the NBC site to see if I can write something to the family.

24. Really sad. Just heard about it on the local news
too eerie, considering his character had a heart attack (and survived) and, apparently, he too was an alcoholic.

RIP.

27. He was one too?
I didn't know that. I guess they played that in with his character on WW. I remember when his character had the attack. I cried like a baby and just balwed my eyes out. :(
