Boeing to Cut 4,000-5,000 More Workers -- ap breaking news
SEATTLE (AP) - The Boeing Co. plans to cut 4,000 to 5,000 more jobs than previously planned from its commercial airplane division by the end of the year, as the airline industry remains mired in the worst downturn in its history.

3. I thought you said "commerical aviation"?
From what I undersrtand these aerospace companys run their commercial sections seperatly from their defense buisness....

...and, from the link, Boeing DID get a defense order:

"AirTran Airways ordered up to 110 737s and 717s this month, All Nippon Airways finalized an order for 45 737s at the end of June and an Air Force order for 100 767 refueling tankers cleared the White House last week and awaits congressional approval."

4. Right, TBG, I knew they got some crumbs from the table...
...but it ain't nuttin' like what Lookhard got. And, as you can see in your post, the order is still awaiting "congressional approval." But thanks for adding that info.

I was sickened when they announced that LH had won the big contract; I was living in a Lockheed town at the time, and had already seen the writing on the wall: they were going to win EVERYTHING they decided to bid on. Many folks who had been screwed big time by the big LH were pulling for Boeing to win the big contract, hoping to see some FAIRNESS again in defense contract awards.

5. Hmmm, well it just so happens
Boeing opened a brand spanking new plant here in PA. Weldon (R) Warmonger, finally got the V-22 Osprey program back on track this spring. You remember the V-22, the one that crashes all the time and kills Marines. The acquisitions guy at the DOD quit because Perle and Weldon forced him to sign off on what he knew firsthand was a flying deathtrap.

I wonder if that pork--err I mean those jobs--will come here to this neck of the woods to assure Weldon's reelection.

10. Per the so-called tax cut.

I'm a Washington State resident though not a Boeing employee. Whatever I'm getting from the Feds in the way of a tax cut has been eaten up by an increase in my property taxes.

Since our "come piss on it" conservatives have refused to fund things like homeland security and the "No child left behind act" the state and local governments have had to pick up the tab.

9. Boeing just got a huge corporate welfare package
McCain was complaining about it - of course, only because Boeing is located in a Democratic state.
