I'm So F**king Sick of BAD News
MAJOR RANT WARNING!!!!!!!

For every inch we advance it seems we're blown back 3 feet. The news over the last 2 weeks seemed to finally be breaking our way. The media were actually suspicious of Bush and the polls seemed to also indicate a growing distrust of the f**king resident. Yesterday and today, however, things seem to be rolling back to their f**ked up level. The media are slathering over Bush's "masterful and godlike" big dick killing of Saddam's kids. What big dick he has now! How cool! How wonderous its properties! It IS indeed a holy missle! Add to that Clinton's "no big deal" observation about one of the major lies on which the war was predicated. Fuck him too!

Someone please tell me why we should hope for relief from the f**king trolls? This country is SO f**ked up! I hate it I hate it I hate it I hate it and I hate all the goddamn sheep that continue to support and re-elect these wothless human beings!

Go ahead and tell me I'm an asshole. Go ahead and tell me to move out. Go ahead and tell me shut the f*ck up. Go ahead and tell me to quit my baby-ass whining! Go ahead. I don't give a shit anymore.

I REFUSE to get my hopes up even one millimeter any longer. I REFUSE to continue to let myself be buffeted by the waves on the sea of this f**king country's fickle sheeple only to be dashed against the rocks again and again and again and again and again ad nauseum. It's obvious that the sheeple don't give a good goddamn about the constituion, about even the most basic human need for peace. I hope they reap what they truely deserve.

GODDAMNIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2. Actually, the killing of Odai/Qusai is a good thing.
I'm guessing they were the ones organizing the 'resistance.' If their deaths can reduce American casualties, I say, "great."

However, I know what you mean. Just as we think the worm is about to turn--with the Niger story gaining traction--it goes Shrub's way again, thanks to Kobe, Odai/Qusai and Lynch. Not so fast, however, an increasing number of presstitutes has become disenchanted with BushCo's arrogance. People like Andrea Mitchell, Campbell Brown, David Gregory and even Chris Matthews are starting to ask tougher questions. (and, yes, I realize they're all NBC/MSNBC reporters. Let's not forget that they were trying to 'out-fox Fox' by turning conservative.)

As they say, "The fightin' is rounds. This is round one."

16. NBC was Fox before Fox was Fox
From the moment Jack Welch of GE bought the network. It was stealth mostly, and gradual, but they've been a propaganda arm of the GOP for way over a decade.

3. Okay, here's what you do:
Go to www.congress.org.

If you click on the directory part (don't have it right here in front of me, obviously, because I'm writing this to you now, instead), it'll give you ways to find addresses, emails and phone and fax numbers (which are far more immediate) for every congressperson and senator on the Hill.

I'd pick a few (INCLUDING your three - your two senators and your congress-rep) and start calling. You can call their local or state office instead of going all the way to Washington if the long distance charge is too stiff.

If not...

I'd also eagerly suggest stirring things up with a few MORE congresspeople and senators who are NOT yours. Pick a few Dems (maybe Nancy Pelosi, Pete Stark (under fire recently in the "fruitcake" flap) and that nauseating Porter Goss (R-FL) former CIA guy and now head of the House intel committee, I believe, AND people like David Dreier (R-CA), Henry Waxman (D-CA) - who absolutely ROCKS! - Jane Harman (D-CA) - ranking Dem on the intel committee who came out rather visibly against bush's shenanigans recently, Jim McDermott (D-WA) and Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) and George Miller, (D-CA) who are visible people. There's ALWAYS Dennis Kucinich, too, ya know. Also, senators like Jay Rockefeller and Carl Levin and John Warner and JOHN MCCAIN - who actually has a tiny shard of integrity in this - and Pat Roberts (R-KS), the pathetic apologist twerp who heads their intel committee (I think). And Harry Reid, the Minority Whip (D-NV).

Anyway, those are just a few. They tend to be easier to get through to on the phone than are Daschle and Frist.

YOU HAVE TO LET THEM KNOW THIS IS JUST ENOUGH, THANK YOU! They have to be REMINDED, like an eight-year-old kid who doesn't pick up his socks, that this is a big deal to the voters out there (like you). You have to stay in their faces. I've had some rethugs' staffers actually hang up on me, like the fellow they passed me around to when I called Nancy Johnson (R-CT) yesterday to complain about the ham-handed way the House Ways and Means rethugs called the cops on the Dems and then had the nerve to go on CSPAN in a news conference to boo-hoo about how horrible the Dems were because one of them had the nerve to call them a "fruitcake." (!!!!!!!!!) I still call anyway.

You have to let them know!!!!

Reason is, they'll sit back (especially the bad guys - ie rethugs) that, despite the two Saddam Sons who got blown away yesterday, that doesn't just make it all better, and there are still the LIES, still the trumped up WMD crap, still the 16-words in the State of the Union, and - oh yes - STILL - the CRIMINAL (and yes, it is criminal, because it's against the law in "wartime") action of outing an undercover CIA operative in the media (the wife of Ambassador Joseph Wilson - the guy who went to Niger to investigate the forged documents about Iraq trying to buy uranium from Africa - who blew this whole thing up a couple of weeks ago, and now says he views the outing of his wife as a message from the White House that others in the intel community better watch what they say. The leak was made to Robert Novak, and also to Time magazine, by "two senior administration officials.")

You HAVE TO LET THEM KNOW!

-------------------

Also, the many links here to op/ed pieces and news stories and commentaries and stuff often carry email addresses to the authors. WRITE TO THEM!!!! SPUR THEM ON!!!! Or set them straight if they're writing crap!!!! I've done this and VERY FREQUENTLY get a response back. Sometimes that response is encouraging and illuminating.

THESE PEOPLE ALL - repeat - ALL - NEED TO BE REMINDED!!!!!!!

WE HAVE TO NAG!!!!!!!

You can't just sit here and stew! It'll drive you nuts! I know. It starts happening to me, too, until I take what action is available to me-as-peon. And that action is what I've just listed.

I know it's penny-ante stuff. It's not like you can go open your microphone and talk to 20 million people at a time. I know you can't pick up the phone and get the private numbers of bush, O'Reilly, or Larry King or Clinton or Terry McAuliffe or anybody we all DO really need to be able to confront. But you CAN DO THESE OTHER THINGS!!!

I'd give you phone numbers, but I've already taken the time to look them up, write them out, and post them many times here before on DU, and don't get much response on them. I get 'em through www.congress.org., so they're easily find-able.

It's drudgery but it helps!

As I've tried to point out before (and sorry for being repetitive), IF THEY THINK YOU DON'T CARE, THEY WON'T EITHER!

Good luck. I called about 15 people yesterday on the CIA agent outing by the "two senior administration officials" AND the WMD lies, and I'll probably repeat that to some extent today.

We should make it a point to call at least our own reps, every day, about this.

Hope this helps.

11. Great suggestions!
Thanks for the details and practical tips.

And to the person who started this thread, I share your despair over bad news. Yesterday's tragic shootings were like another punch in the stomach.

5. I started off the morning crying
over DU threads! Come on! Pull yourself together for my sake! We are not going to stop caring just because so many others have. You and I know that there are worse days ahead.

Don't let it eat you alive. Take some action however small. It will make you feel better. I remember on MLK's birthday and on President's Day weekend, I painted huge signs and tied them up on chain link fences at schools around town. It was exhilerating. Liberating. "YOU ARE BEING LIED TO" one of my signs said. I'm thinking I need to go do another round of signs. This time they will say: "WE TOLD YOU SO."

8. Oh, but that is EXACTLY why Rethugs don't mind bad news......
....so it will cause us all to get tired of hearing it all and ingore what they are doing. Then while all of us are trying to find something good to concentrate on they slip in all their crap right under the American people's noses.

10. Yeah I know
We all are. Take comfort in the fact that they aren't going to have their way forever, the doors been wedged open and sunshine is going to come in brighter now and make the roaches scurry for cover. Bad news sucks, but imagine how the other side feels right now, they're reeling more and more people are questioning and getting a bad taste in their mouth. About the only rah rah supporters this chimp* has is it's base, dyed in the wool hardcore pukes that won't change even if they're smacked between the eyes with a 2x4.
When was the last time the chimp* had a prime time news conference or gave a speech? When was the last time he addressed an audience outside of his base?
Chin up their time is coming and it's not going to be pretty when they fall, trust me.

12. I'm feeling a little that way too--
but at a certain point last night I just turned of the TV, and settled down to catch up on some of the better websites. Read the editorial threads here at DU, read josh marshall's blog http://talkingpointsmemo.com/july0302.html#071103702pm
or go to the personal sites of the best columnists, like Krugman
http://www.wws.princeton.edu/~pkrugman/
and Scheer
http://www.robertscheer.com/

This doesn't change the facts on the ground, but I can feel that I'm in good company, that there are others who are also aware of what is going on, and watching closely. It's why DU is so necessary to so many of us (but there are times when it's good to be selective about which threads to read).

I've come to believe that we need both the optimists and the pessimists among us--giving up on hope means we will surely lose, but too much false optimism might mean we don't work hard enough to ensure that the bad guys don't win. One thing is sure--all the guns are out to try to make us (all Americans) feel helpless. That's their plan--how to take over America. We CAN'T let that PR trick work.

Did you see the article (I think from The Nation) about how Bush's language is calculated to make his listeners feel helpless and afraid? I'll come back with a link to it if I can find it. Or maybe someone else will post it. It helps to know how/why we feel so manipulated--then we tend to feel angry rather than depressed. A more active, empowering emotion.

Hang in there, bobd--you ARE among friends (and today's news won't be news tomorrow). FWIW, I don't think the "Bush lied" issue will be put to rest any time soon--partly because he keeps lying, every day. It IS exhausting to have to face the same stupid lies, over and over, even long after they should have been completely discredited. And the danger of burnout for the more obsessive among us (I count myself in that number) is great. I think I've just talked myself into a long walk this evening--I need it....

15. you guys feel bad? I'm still PSYCHED
We still have the momentum! You all heard, or heard about, Chris Matthews last night, right? The "bullshit"?

We have only just begun to get the word out about the lies. It's working! Think of all the lies we have yet to show the public: the 45-minute lie, the Iraq/Al Queda lie, the AmeriCorps lie, the tax cut for the working class lie, the Clear Skies lie...

One by one, slowly but surely...

DU is the place to rant and rave, now let's get out there and be rational, mind-changing activists!
