August 1, 2003: Bush addresses the nation. Condi resigns.
I predict Bush will adress the nation on or around August 1st in an attempt to put the Niger/uranium fiasco to an end. The thrust of this address will be to announce the voluntary resignation of National Security Adviser Condoleeza Rice.

She will be resigning because she accepts blame for the Africa/uranium statement getting by her, thus making the White House look bad. He will say he wishes her well and respects her decision. There will be words about how the assertion is still "factually correct" and that the case for war was just and necessary, based on a mountain of evidence.

Then Bush will say, although he personally was not made aware of the CIA's doubts, as president, he will take full responsibility for the matter. Condi's resignation will allow him to "take full responsibility", while actually placing the blame on her. He might even actually have the balls to say "the buck stops here".

They'll have their "fall guy (girl)", who will have actually fallen. Then there will be closing talk about "I hope we can now put this matter behind us and get onto the serious business of fighting terra and making the world safe for democracy blah blah blah blah..."

Mind you, I don't think this will work. But I think they will be forced to take an action such as this as the questions continue to escalate. Condi will really have no choice to take the fall, as it is clear now that she knew about the CIA's Africa/uranium doubts and she lied about it repeatedly on national television. Neither she, nor Stephen Hadley, nor chief speechwriter Michael Gerson, are "someone down in the bowels of the agency". Unfortunately for Rice, they are all advisers VERY close to the president.

1. good call
I call for Chenney's fall from power by
May... as the Energy commision heats up, as
well.

:tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat:

It is truly one of those summers... years administrations...

Reach for the :donut: we are in for a fun time as Watergate the Sequel continues to unfold in a country near ya.

Hey this time it includes five other governments... why stop with the fun here, we can share ...

(By the way,for those who missed it Norway was the first one to
have a government fall over Iraqgate... now for Spain, Italy, England and Australia)

I must say, Paul Wolfowitz said there would a fall of regimmes like
dominoes, well Paul you're correct, (for once) but not where or why.

2. Did you hear about the Task Force papers having maps of Iraqi oil fields..
... and lists of potential "foreign suitors" for oil contracts in Iraq? (http://www.boston.com/dailynews/199/wash/Documents_to_Cheney_s_2001_ene:.shtml)

I did not hear about Norway's government falling! Wassup with that? Any info?

3. That sounds likely to some degree

However, since Hadley offered his resignation and Chimpy turned it down, is he likely to do the same with CONdi? I doubt very seriously that he'll say the buck stops with him, however.

8. Yeah, but the press hasn't.
They (the WH) are clueless. They think just by repeating the "we've all moved on" mantra, it'll make it true. Perhaps a year ago. but the press smell blood now, AND they're being openly intimidated and lied to. They don't like it. They now know that they're not safe either, and they're fighting back.

10. The media...
...will pick-up and have a little on the republican stone-walling:

"If they (the administration) did nothing wrong, then why don't they investigate to prove it?"

The repugs can smell how wrong they are, that's why.

9. but who could fill her shoes?
Condi is indispensable to our national security apparatus, there's no one that has her unique qualifications.

Other than possibly being the only African American neoconservative woman with an oil tanker named after her on the entire planet. :eyes:

15. it can't work

condi would have been cut loose for the 'conventional hijackings' LIE shortly after 9/11.

if she resigns, all that opens up and * will be questioned about why she was still in her position.

That's been conspicuously absent from anything he has said so far. I wonder why.

19. You're right. That's too unqualified.
He'll say something like "the system broke down" (a line they're already using) and take responsibility for that.

17. It'll never happen
I hope I don't sound racist or sexist, but there's no way they'll allow a black female to leave such a high-profile position.

If there's any sword-falling to be done, it'll be done by a middle-aged white male who will be quietly shuffled into a lucrative career consulting for the RNC or similar entity.
