Go on O'Reillys show or you can't win.
Edited on Wed Dec-03-03 03:33 PM by Bleachers7
I found this through the clark blog. It led to this other persons blog. Enjoy...

http://www.roberth2o.blogspot.com/

<snip>

On my way home from Latin I was listening to Bill O'Reilly, and he began talking about Howard Dean. Now I will admit up front that I like Bill O'Reilly. He's entertaining to listen to, and he is the most objective political talk show host out there, which probably isn't saying much. He can be rather crass, and I do disagree with him on some issues. But if he sees something wrong he'll criticize it, regardless of the party involved.

Anyways, he was criticizing Dean for his refusal to go on the tough political shows like Tim Russert, who gave him a drubbing when he had Dean on before, and O'Reilly's own Factor. Dean apparently doesn't want to do these kinds of shows because he's afraid of what the result my be. In other words, he's afraid.

But then O'Reilly started on Clark. Apparently O'Reilly hasn't been able to get in touch with the good General and get him booked on The Factor. Then O'Reilly went off and said that Clark was never going to get any votes if he refused to go on The Factor, because the voters watch The Factor. O'Reilly made his show into the determining factor in the election.

Contrary to O'Reilly's belief, the political world does not revolve around him. His show is not the determining factor for anything. Any refusal by a candidate to appear on his show does not automatically mean they have lost. It was rather amusing, and sad. But the thing is that while he said that Clark had refused, he originally said that his people couldn't get in touch with him. This isn't a refusal. How can one refuse something without being notified first?

I want to listen to! Right!

2. O'Really's a big fat poopie head
Less than 2 million Americans watch O'Really's show.

And he thinks it'll make a difference if Clark shows up or not?

Someone has a self-inflated view of himself.

There was a special reason O'Really graced the cover of Al Franken's book, and it wasn't because O'Really is an honest man.

3. I imagine he means...
Clark's people haven't returned his calls.

Given the choice of appearing before the 500 or so people in the country who will never see a candidate not on O'Reilly's show and avoiding the chance of being baited and sandbagged by him, I suspect not returning the calls is a wise decision.

(may already be happening, for all I know) is if all the dem candidates boycotted "The Factor." It wouldn't be a factor then, would it?

jerk. He has such an inflated view of himself and his little show. He thinks anyone who doesn't come on his show is "afraid" of him, when in reality he simply makes people :puke:

12. Didn't Dean appear on Hardball recently?
How can O'Reilly criticize Dean when he first appeared on Russert, then went on Hardball. The difference between O'Reilly and these other guys is that they at least let their guests talk and don't blow a gasket if the guy is able to answer a quesiton. Also A guy like Russert isn't personally debating his guests, he is asking questions he htinks peopel want to hear. O'Reilly on the other hand takes everything personal, and considers it a duel. Russert and Mathews play Devil's advocate alot.

Anyways there is nothing funnier than seeing someone strike a nerve with O'Reilly. Occasionally it happens where O'Reilly panics because he has been embaressed on his show and he freaking explodes. Of course he did it to Franken at the book expo, but Neal Boortz, who I really dislike got him good on the Factor one night and O'Reilly went apesh*t, calling him a viscious son of a b*tch.

13. Everyone knows FOX is shit.
So why should any of our candidates go on any of their programs?

There isn't any point. As soon as the camera cuts away, he'll just negate what our person says and not allow for a retort. SLIMY!

I'd like to see all Dems refuse to speak to Fox News. Appearances with Fox just further the illusion that they are a legitimate journalistic outfit.

Howard and Wesley are doing the right thing. I hope when one of them is POTUS, they'll eject Fox from the White House press corp.

14. Can't stand O'Reilly - he says Al Gore "lost" the
election because he wouldn't go on his show - Hillary apparently won't either (don't know if she's been invited) but imagine she has and he always takes swipes at her - wonder how she won without him. He's a gas bag.

17. ignore fox news at our peril
Edited on Wed Dec-03-03 04:48 PM by karabekian
fox news has 30% of the cable news market. Oreilly is one of the more popular shows on fox. It would be a good idea for the candidate to go on there regardless of who it is. They can either not go and have oreilly say how they wont go on and bash their policy or they can go answer his questions and appeal to the large number of fox viewers. Obviously he won't be deciding the election but his viewership is in the millions and what better way to get the message out then on popular shows. Unless they cant stand up to the interview by a schmuck like oreilly. I would hope the candidate can :kick: his butt.

22. The cable news market is but a small drop in a very large bucket
For example, Faux News gets a 1.9 share.

NBC news gets a 36 share, ABC a 27 share and CBS a 24 share.
(Approximate numbers since I'm not going to look it up right now)

O'Really would be lucky to get 2 million viewers, let alone "millions" of viewers.

23. O'Really's viewership is not in the millions
He's lucky to pull down 1.5 million households on a show.

Cable news shows are a joke when it comes to the number of viewers compared to network news shows.

observing the guests that Bill has had recently. Nobody wants to go on his show. I think last night he had the campaign chairman for the losing candidate in the race for dog catcher of Cincinnati... or something like that.

19. O'Reilly is tough, but he is not objective.
I know a lot of people hate Russert around here, but he is much more professional than O'Reilly. Russert asks tough questions, while O'Reilly pontificates over his "guests" like a know-it-all asshole. I've never seen Russert do the "lemme tellya somethin'" act to anyone.

There is no reason to go on a freeper show since it's only purpose is to defeat you. If O'riley were really fair I would say the opposite.

26. That is the thing I just fucking love about O'Really
Whenever someone flat out refuses to go on his show, its always because they are "afraid" and "can't handle the 'no spin zone'".
BULLSHIT.

In reality, its because O'Really is a rightwing hack, and everyone knows it. Hell, even O'Really knows it. I have never seen him criticize the Bush administration.

I think O'Really knows why the Dem candidates won't come on his show. He is such an arrogant fuckhead.

28. Lieberman would probably accept an invitation from O'Reilly…
it'd give him another opportunity to bash Democrats and reach a large audience.

Lieberman, like so many before him, took his complaints about the Democrats to Fox News. "I always thought the Democratic Party was the party of inclusion, but they excluded me tonight," he said on Hannity & Colmes. "But I got the last word because I'm on your much more highly viewed show."

29. O'Reilly? The guy who makes liberal use of the MUTE button?
and yes, pun intended.

I heard an interview where he was actually making some good points, and then suddenly out of nowhere he has a tantrum over how much the interviewer mentioned Al Franken's book.

The interview was about O'Reilly's book, the interviewer mentioned the title and author several times during the interview, and O'Reilly was being given loads of opportunities to rebut what was in Al Franken's book and what Al Franken said in his own interview.

What a loser! Doesn't he understand that getting the last word is a golden opportunity? But O'Reilly wasted it by blowing up at the interviewer and stomping out of the room.

In my opinion, O'Reilly was being a whiny brat, much like our current mis-administration.

You can hear the interview for yourself on MPR's website on Real Audio.
