A question for Florida DUers
I've asked this before but have not yet received a response. As a Californian I'm not privy to Florida politics so I'd appreciate some insight on this. The question is: Is the same machine (striking Democratic/minority voters from the rolls, moving precincts at the last minute, etc.) that allowed Bush* to steal the 2000 election still in place?

1. As far as I know...
it was just a repub corp that got the contract to "check the rosters"; I couldn't say if they still have said contract.

2. Actually, the last I heard
that organization is being recruited again for the same purpose. Actually, I COULD go look up the name of the organization but I currently have my Sissy Girl (terminal lap kittie) in my lap and she gets REALLY pissed when I get up when she's all settled in nice and warm and asleep. ;-)

3. Here is a series of articles
in the Tallahassee Democrat that might interest you.

4. Wow! Great links, OMG
and thank you. Though after reading through them I'm not encouraged. It seems my suspicions were right. I can't see a scenario in which a Democrat can win in Florida, regardless of who the eventual nominee is or his/her VP running mate.

5. The party is getting ready
There are a lot of people down here just as p.o.'d about what happened as anyone else.

Except we are here.

So I think this time around there will be a lot more effort put into poll watching, etc., etc., state wide. Hopefully, this new influx of Dean/Clark supporters everyone is talking about will take the next step and come out to volunteer on election day, not just to vote.

We should also have teams of lawyers in every county to make challenges, etc., on the spot if Jeb and the gang tries to disenfranchise large numbers of voters the way they did in 2000.

Fool us once, or whatever it was Dubya mumbled that time.

6. Just remember the human element this time.
People are waking up. The last couple of elections were done while they were still snoozing. Since this war in Iraq, and all the lay-offs people are noticing.

The problem is that the GOP is not really aware that we are noticing. They don't feel vulnerable yet, but they will.
