Poll question: Assume Dean Is Our Next President. What Do You Expect of Him?
Set aside questions of his electability. Assume Gore's bet is right and Dean wins. What kind of presidency would you expect of him?

4. Kind of like Vermont.
A guy who gets along with them there Republicans real good. Of course, he'd have to exterminate the cockroaches first, but after that it would be smooth sailing.

I almost wish Dean could win, just so I could watch his nutcase supporters go into wild denial over what a complete Rockefeller Republican, 'corporate whore' he would be.

Dean relaxes regulation over business.

Dean whore: 'It's just a trap so that the Republicans will trust him. He'll crack the whip pretty soon.'

Dean cuts social spending for the poor.

Dean whore: 'He will reinstate them later. We knew he was going to do this, but it's part of his plan.'

Dean does nothing to close corporate tax loopholes.

Dean whore: 'What could he do? He's got a Republican Congress to deal with. He'll get on it as soon as we win Congress.'

Dean does absolutely nothing different from Clinton, or from what any of the other candidates would have done.

Dean whore: 'I feel so empowered watching him. Sigh....'

9. Why don't you start a new thread and ask that question?
That way, this thread stays devoted to Dean, and that thread could be devoted to Clark.

Thanks tons. But you wanted the question answered, seems logical that you'd start the thread. At least to me.

19. But you clearly want to 'date' him.
Seeing what you usually give your money to I can understand why.

Are you planning on continuing down this childish path?

7. Wow, so a Dean supporter is a "Dean Whore" huh?
What a class act you are. I'm so happy that the candidate you espouse has a hundred times your tact, manners, decency and vision.

11. Hey, our world class candidate bashers...
...put to shame the absolute WORST any of the candidates could say on their own. As mad as I've gotten at some of them, they'll never come close to deserving the "instaIgnore" that some of those here do.

But your opinion is noted, and assigned the value I usually assign to such things.

21. very valuable analysis from a fellow "Democrat"
. . . and when Dean gets the nomination I know that you will doubtless be advising Democrats to vote for Bush, "the lesser of 2 evils."

and more. I've seen how much he can get done, so I'm certain we'll see great things out of Howard Dean.

24. Dean Is Not Running On His Presidency
He is running on his opposition to the war and his grassroots efforts. And his lightweight policies, big on slogans/small on details, demonstrate this pretty clearly.

Chief diplomat, Chief Legislator, Commander-in-Chief - these are not titles that bring Dean to mind. If this were a job interview, rather than a popularity contest, I don't think Dean would stand much of a chance.

And I find it very hard to put electability aside. Even Jon Stewart ran through about 10 quick reasons why Dean would get trounced, and that was without even mentioning Vermont's population or civil unions record.

25. Good question.
I think the possibilities are:

1. Gridlock goes into overdrive.
2. Dean will sell out to the Republicans (based on his record and the fact that Zell Miller praised how he governed in Vermont I think there is a strong chance of this. Of course, based on past conduct, it seems likely that Dean will enjoy bashing the liberals who elected him).
3. The Republicans could get a veto proof majority in 2004/2006 so a Democratic president will be significantly weakened.
