Race Baiting has got to stop at DU
I would like someone to explain to me when it became OK for supporters of another Democratic candidate to say that any other candidate would be bad for African Americans or any other American for that matter (or imply as much).

WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. Any of our candidates is going to be better for minorities. Al Gore got 90% of the African American vote last time around. There is a reason for this... Democrats believe in equal rights. It is part of our party platform. Of any of our core issues, we should not allow this one to become a wedge.

I was born in Texas. I grew up in Indiana. I've lived on the border of Mexico - and have experienced what it is like to be a minority, even though I am white. We are so much better than this - I can't stand reading here about people saying that just because someone is white, or comes from a predominately white state, that somehow translates into a lack of empathy or concern, or passion to do whats right for minorities. We have got to give our candidates more credit than that - and stop allowing this to become a wedge issue (much like the GOP has made it one for so long).

End Rant. For now.

2. Thanks for a good post. Getting absurd, isn't it?
It begins to appear that the posters here have lost sight of the true evil; namely the Bush Administration - and will use any cudgel against the other Dem candidates that they think will "advance" their own. I agree with your Rant. Here it comes. . .

3. This is just prenomination bitterness. It will pass.
But I will grant you that it's sad when so called democrats would lower themselves to race-based slime just to take a slap at another candidate. Petty, vindictive, stupid.

I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I really am.
I know it was a serious post, but I just couldn't help myself.
I'm willing to be forgiven.

6. Thank you!
It's simply desperation on the part of other candidates' supporters, though--- they're pulling out every cheap-shot, low-blow piece of crap they can come up with in order to try and stop Gov. Dean.

9. I really like Clark
but both he and Dean do have some infantile supporters. Can we at least agree on that?

13. I could care less
and this is part of the reason for my post. It's not just Dean supporters. It's EVERYONES supporters, and there is no place for it in our party or here at DU.

This isn't about who said what, it's about what we shouldn't be saying at all.

16. it was sarcasm
Al sharpton called Jesse Jackson Jr. (and any other black who'd endorse a white politican) a "new breed of uncle tom"… and Clarkies were agreeing with him.

I suppose that's okay tho since Sharpton is black.

:eyes:

and the reference to underming blacks' votings rights is obviously in regard to the sour grape juice Clarkies have been drinking for the past 2 days.

11. *hole and company are the real enemy
And I hope the "pre-nomination bitterness" (I really am surprised at the sustained level and intensity of it) does indeed end after we choose a candidate to exterminate the White House of the vermin that has taken it over.

19. Its not race baiting. . .
. . .if one candidate (Dean) has a weakness (African American support) and he uses symbolism (Harlem photo op/white people holding "African Americans For Dean" signs) to make up for that weakness it is fair game and not race baiting to point out his manipulation. You may call it race baiting I call it keeping it real. I assume this thread is a reaction of two of the threads I have started today. . .I stand by them.

21. It's all relative
and I have no problem with discussions of perceived weaknesses. It's when it is extrapolated from those perceptions that any candidate in the Democratic Party could actually be bad for minorities that I start getting ticked off.
