Anti-Dean Freeper Editorial in Minneapolist Star Tribune
Sheez!

http://www.startribune.com/stories/1519/4265219.html

With Dean in command, U.S. soldiers would be left high and dry
Joe Repya

Published December 13, 2003

REPYA.CP1213

"In his latest red-faced tirade, Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean has once again shown that his attacks on President Bush are based on anger, not on facts. . . .

"In this old soldier's opinion, Howard Dean has become the face of a Democratic Party that is motivated more by the hatred of the president than by the facts, sound policy and what is best for our nation.

"Joe Repya, of Eagan, a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, is a veteran of Vietnam and the Gulf War. In March he helped organize a rally in support of the war in Iraq."

5. Don't think it matters
That is the face of campaign 2004. And people are making fun of it instead of taking it seriously. Whining about being "bashed" is not going to work next year.

21. Hah! You beat me to it!
I thought all the repukes and freeps were throwing wads of cash at Dean. Afterall, he can't possibly be getting non-repuke money can he? And Holy Cow there's no way he's getting any real liberal money!!

Shocked I tell you. :D

3. Maybe everyone here should check their local paper...
...and see if that same editorial appeared elsewhere.

4. Ah, how lacking in nuance and subtlety
Perfectly fitting for the Bush era. It's all so simple, and trite, and neat, and I don't have to think about it anymore. Dean is bad. Bush is good.

I seriously can see a move to Newspeak in the works. Good and evil may eventually be confusing. Better to just change to good and ungood.

6. Well, if they want to talk about FACTS, bring'em on!
The facts about Iraq, the economy and everything else Bush has scorched speak volumes.

7. formulaic
Yeah, he's an "old soldier" all right...an old soldier in the bush propaganda machine. This was written by some hack in a r-w think tank because it has their "formula" throughout:

a) paint colorful, negative picture ("red faced tirade").

b) reiterate talking point "..based on anger, not facts"

c) declare lie du jour

d) add manipulated figures to support lie

e) repeat lie du jour

f) say Americans can see through Democratic "lies"

g) say majority support fearless leader george bush

Same old same old.

12. no
He is a local RW hero who made up a bunch of "Support Our Troops, Liberate Iraq" signs to counter the flood of "Say No To War With Iraq" signs that were all over the city.

I give him credit though. He is the perfect example of grassroots. He made the signs with his own money. Bought time on the radio with his own money. Used all the profits from making signs to make more signs and give to troops overseas.

RW nutcase, sure. But a smart, politically active RW nutcase

16. That doesn't mean that someone else
didn't write the letter and he just agreed to sign it. It would be interesting to know if it shows up anywhere outside of Minnesota.

17. too many similar points to be a coincidence
R-w grassroots runs all the way to guys like this. There have been various threads here that show the similarities in the talking points. There are too many instances to be coincidence. You actually think a guy like this isn't plugged into the RNC's "talking points?" Please.

9. I think I know this guy
MN DU'ers, correct me if I'm wrong but this is the guy who created those 'Support Our Troops - Liberate Iraq' signs in response to the 'No War in Iraq - Contact your Congressperson' signs.
Both signs were all over the Twin Cities. This guy was on all the local news shows being interviewed, expressing dismay how anyone could possibly be against this.

How this makes him an authority on Dean and his positions escapes me.

Funny how certain DUers are ready to leap into the voting booth with him, isn't it?

They have the same opinion, it seems....but "claim" they support at least one Dem.

18. Shows that the paper is "fair and balanced"
I frequently see articles and editorials from it on Common Dreams.

Nice to know a newspaper can still be more than a mouthpiece for a "side."

23. I Alone Determine The Laws of Statistics!
Well, that's what the freepers like to think.

Since Bush took office, military pay increased an average of 5.2 percent per year relative to the consumer price index. (During the Clinton administration, military pay decreased an average of almost 2 percent per year relative to the CPI.)

Duh. Military pay could rise, fall, or stay constant in this scenario. If the CPI falls because Stinky and his advisors can't handle the US economy, military pay rises relative to that even if it remains constant in an absolute sense.
