1. heheheheh....
They're kind of abusing the bat...

I wonder if they just make that much at any given time during the campaign...

How many have they gone through?

24. Fantastic idea.
A lot of it may indeed been motivated from DU posts. I am ashamed of all the alleged democrats who post such hate Dean here at DU. I see Skinner agrees.

What, Are You Kidding?
As long as those bats keep on breaking, they sure as hell aren't losing their impact.

I wish Clark would put up a goal on the FRONT page of his website. Hiding the birthday cake on the CCN blog is kinda counter-productive, IMO.

32. here's the link
http://www.forclark.com/special/birthday_fundraiser

It's just $40,000-----not much by internet fundraising records. Dean's campaign have put up three or four bats during the time of Clark's fundraiser......and those four bats together went for a total of $1,000,000.

44. As evidenced by every one breaking its goal...
...please...."lost its impact"?

On my planet, success is success. As long as the bats continue to give Dean supporters a reason to contribute and as long as those contributors continue to respond in this way, the "bat" is an effective tool.

Where candidates can concentrate on meeting with people and shaping policy instead of trying to raise money...

You need money to go toe and toe with President Bush.

8. how does putting a bat up on the website take away from…
Dean's ability to do that.

if anything, it frees him up to concentrate more on meeting people & shaping policy than candidates who can't raise money as effortlessly as Dean can.

47. I agree.
The costs of campaigns (media costs, consultants, etc. etc.) have continued to escalate... While I appreciate that Dean's group has found away that is not the corporate fatcat shakedown 1,000 per plate dinners, it still is emblematic of how much energy needs to be spent on fundraising rather than the policy formulation, meeting people, (and for the elected... the business of running the country.)

That's going to be a fun one to break. The other ad retaliation bats have been, what? $200,000? $250,000?? All I know is the new ad better kick some serious ass.

On the blog, people started talking about their new contributions right after they saw the ad. After this one, they're going to have to retire the poor bat for a while. Although I have to say, it looks pretty good for being broken so many times. ;)

I'm interested in knowing the psychological impact the bat has on the other campaigns. It's unusual to get to see how much the campaign is asking for and how the supporters respond. I hope the Bush handlers are scratching their heads in confusion at all this.

23. Interesting.
My husband thinks I'm weird for getting excited about the bat. His response: "it's not even a cool bat, why do you give money to it?"

He's a sucker for the more complicated graphics...and yet the marriage works anyway. :)
