2. Unbelievable...
Are they no longer teaching 20th century history in the schools these days? Roosevelt must NEVER be taken off the dime. His place on it should be forever assured, due to his influence with the March of Dimes, not to mention his place among the very greatest Presidents,a place that Ronald Reagan will never come close to.

5. Nancy Reagan doesn't support it.
She's gone on record to say she doesn't support this either.

7. "Who cares what she thinks?"
If the deification of Raygun is what the Imperial Family wants, then deification of Raygun will be what the Imperial Family and the Imperial Subjects get.

End of story.

But Raygun's greaest sacrifice for the Bush Imperial Family will be taking the needle behind the ear, sometime between July and Oct. 2004.

12. How true, tom_paine. . .
Reminds me of when John Wayne died and the Orange County (California) Supervisors wanted to rename the local airport for him. The public was something like 80% against the idea, somewhat for costs, but mostly because Wayne hated the airport -- the flightpath went directly over his Newport Beach home. Despite public sentiment, and the passionate arguments against the idea put forth by Wayne's widow, the Supervisors were determined to "honor" Wayne by dishonoring his name, so they did.

19. They pulled a similar stunt with National Airport.
The Senate voted to change the name of Washington National Airport to Ronald Reagan, despite the objections of the locals and the fact that there was no love lost between Reagan and the DC area (to say nothing of, say, the air traffic controllers). But the measure got the votes, including what might have been some sympathy votes due to Reagan's illness.

Naturally, the whole thing cost local businesses thousands of dollars in expenses due to changing signs, etc. What's even worse is that before he left Congress, Bob Barr (R-GA) managed to ram through a bill demanding $400,000 in Metro expenditures to CHANGE THE FREAKIN' METRO SIGNS so that they would bear the name of Saint Ronnie. This while Metro stations inconvenience the handicapped and cause mobile passengers to have heart attacks on their out-of-service escalators, which are never serviced enough. This while Metro has plenty of other financial fish to fry and indeed is the thing that keeps the local government, tourism, etc., running.

I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate this whole infernal Reagan adoration nonsense. He had an insanely corrupt administration, and we're all still paying the price for the policies he observed back in the '80s.

Besides, it's clear that Grover Norquist and the others who support this official Reagan-naming binge don't think he'll get the attention on his own. They have to force it.

And besides, he's still alive. Naming a school or two after him wouldn't be unseemly, but trying to force his image and name on whatever object they can find is inappropriate.

Chimpy is on the Zero Dollar Bill, which is used to fund things like social, health, education and environmental programs.

And the repugs are printing more of them every day...

10. Does anyone remember the March of Dimes?
The children of America turned in dimes to help find a cure for polio. Putting Roosevelt, the most famous victim of the disease, was SYMBOLIC. That is why I find the idea of replacing Rossevelt on the DIME absolutely galling. It isn't just that they want to honor Reagan, they want to destroy that historic SYMBOLISM of Democratic achievemnet.

18. Why?
Because some nameless freeptard in the House wants to honour the dime- sized hole left by the bullet that attempted to assassinate Raygun. (Thank God it missed. Bush would have become president way too early.)

17. It is an insult to common sense
to compare Ronnie Raygun to FDR. FDR was one of the greatest leaders of the last century, Ronnie Raygun doesn't even come close to him. Not in thousand years.

23. We should push for a Bill Clinton Quarter
The way to fight these idiots is to do back what they are doing, but even more so.

Some Democrat should introduce a Clinton Quarter bill, no bullshit, just do it and make it a both or nothing deal.

They will back down if they think that they will have to honor Clinton.
