Here's a couple more I came across in two articles, discussing the same Bush appearance:
(1) In the Washington Post:
"Bush also said he supports diversity. Last month, the Supreme Court issued two decisions about Michigan's admissions system that, taken together, ratified diversity as a rationale for race-conscious admissions."
(Er... in the Michigan U. case, wasn't the Bush Administration arguing against diversity as a factor to enrollment?)
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A59283-2003Jul28.htmlThe Washington Post article also pointed out that Bush is committed to providing more jobs for blacks. But he used the word "faith" 17 times in his speech. That probably means that he will push these jobs through his faith-based initiative. Which means he's not very committed at all.
(2) In Reuters:
"President Bush, seeking on Monday to boost his dismal support among black voters, vowed to keep fighting unemployment that has hit their ranks much harder than it has whites.
""We will not stop, we will not tire until we extend the great promise of America to every neighborhood in America," Bush told the annual meeting of the National Urban League, a nonprofit group that promotes economic advancement and civil rights for blacks."
http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=JOEOUZ3UZQ3EUCRBAEOCFEY?type=politicsNews&storyID=3173301The man will say any lie to ensure his re-election. That speech is as hokey as his "We will leave no child behind."
