Could Halliburton handle support for moon colonization?

So there must be a privatization, profiteering, or military angle to this moon colonization thing. For all its "pure science" and "national glory" the 1960's space program also supported tremendous development in technologies needed for the military.

I was around in the 1960's when the space program developed and one thing that seems quite different is that we no longer have near the industrial capacity we did then.

Would this project force the US into cooperating with industries from other nations? Call me cynical but which countries have aerospace programs that Bush is interested in funding?

Won't happen. And, Bush couldn't name three planets in our solar system, spotting him the Earth. Rove tries to position the most uncurious president in American history as a "visionary." If only the media could (or would) ask him for his rationale on this, it would demonstrate his ignorance. Maybe he wants to go there for the cheese. . .

1) We have no money for Manned missions as is evident by the plethora of extra-terrestrial unmanned "cheapo" missions.

2) This is A Rove ploy to both distract and attempt a vision thing and will be forgotten (unless corporations find a way to tap in on it lavishly).

Adding another billion in debt is nothing for an administration that "spends money like a drunken sailor."

I am in total agreement that there is a large PR component to this thing. It could be a pipe dream like Reagan's "space plane." But the space plane project did get some money thrown at it.

And beyond PR, Bush's only interest would be in the profits such a prokect could generate. There would be a tremendous amount of dollars in play. I say, tongue in cheek, this would be an opportunity for Halliburtin, the great logisitic company to supply the "stars."
