I would like to introduce you to an old friend of mine...

I didn't know what he'd been up to all these years, but here he is. I can't believe this. He's got like five records completed. Well, one of them isn't his; "The Crapenters" isn't his. But the rest of it is.

Yikes, I feel like such a slacker! This guy lives and works and performs in Brooklyn, NY. (Any Brooklyn DUers?) I'm assuming he doesn't lurk or post, though I guess he could. If so, hi!

"BasementBasement" looks to be something of an artist forum/posting site. Just peruse this site, listen to the music, read some of the stuff. Some of it is very dismissive and arty and maybe even a little pretentious. On Buck Stud listen to "Pizza Box/Stereo Flange" and "Love Life" and tell me that's not amazing music. :wow:

So, I'm going to drink myself into a deep depression that's going to last a few weeks over this. I wanted to post it and get an idea of what some DUers think. Prove me wrong! Or agree with me...

So, without further ado, I give you BasementBasment and Buck Stud

3. *L* Just listened to Big Hat , No Cattle -
since it reminded me of our "fine leader" -- imagine my suprise when the song pretty much summed up that same "fine leader's" extensive vocabulary...

Glad to hear it, and I'm sure he'd be glad to hear it too.

We're not exceptionally close, but he's an old bud, yes. I have to agree with you. I find the music amazing. Hope you like it!! Share it with some friends. I'm sure he'd be thrilled!!

5. I'd love to share it - the problem being, I don't know ANYONE
that appreciates the same music I do, in the same way.

I just finished listening to "Uncle Johnny" by the way - --- the guy is really talented.

7. If you look at the thread I started re: the shitload of new cds I ordered
or at least, the ones I remember (I missed a few!) you will see I am all OVER the musical map. I didn't answer the "genre you hate" post, but I can tell you that I don't like death metal music of any sort, christian music (although, oddly enough, one of the cds in my list is some guy I never heard of that got phenomenal reviews from all sorts of people on amazon - and he's a christian musician), most country (love bluegrass and WILLIE!) or whatever they call the varying degrees of synthasized techno that are out now.

I grew up in the 80's (graduated in 90) and have very little use for most of the music that defined that era.

Anyway, my list of newly ordered cds is in no way a comprehensive list of all the types of music I love - but it's a sampling.

But your friend's stuff is right up my alley. :)

What other kind of stuff do you like?

8. I'm equally all over the map.
Interesting that you should mention Willie. If you look at the description of the "Buck Stud" CD you'll see down towards the end that some of the music was a culmination of various projects. The very last one he mentions is Paula NELSON...guess who's daughter she is...

You guessed right! Willie's daughter from his second marriage. Actually I played drums for her but we played in different bands. What a trip!

I write and perform my own music as well. It's arty pop zany rock type stuff. (Near impossible for the composer to describe the music). I like to call it tragicomic farcerock. But what do I know?!?!

My biggest influences are (in no particular order): Bowie, Zappa, Beatles, Dylan but I listen to just about everything from the previously mentioned to modern-day rap and hiphop...hence the name.

9. I never got into Bowie - but not because I don't LIKE him - just never
listened to him much. Love FAME - he did that, didn't he? Maybe it was called something else?

Believe it or not - I used to ONLY listen to rap/r&b/funk. I turned my peckerwood nose up at anything else... lol

I started listening to that stuff early on in it's movement. Like BEFORE McHammer became a joke. His first album was pretty tight. I wasn't ONLY listening to rap then though, that came later.

I exclusively listened to rap back when Ice Cube was heating up, listened to Too Short, DJ Quick, Spice1, Paris, RunDMC, Public Enemy, etc.

Anyway, for a long time I was associating mainly with a group of black friends, so I got an education in culture that many whitebread girls from an almost exclusively white background never got. I feel very fortunate about that.

My musical interests broadened later on - and very much so!

Cool about Willie's daughter! Willie is a rather new "discovery" for me. I've been pretty anti-country for a long time - I happened to see his album "the great divide" in a store a few years ago and noticed Kid Rock, Brian McKnight, Sheryl Crow, et al were performing on his cd. I had a WTF? moment, then did the little scan/earphone thing in the store and was VERY impressed. Bought it, and a few other since then. One of the favorites I have from him is "Milk Cow Blues" - Willie sings the blues, can't get much better than that :) I also discovered I like the Dixie Chicks - to my complete suprise - when I went and bought their newest cd when the radio stations weren't playing them because they spoke their mind about Bush.

Zappa ROCKS, btw. He's got a LOT of stuff out there, and I probably haven't heard most of it. I think I have 3 of his cds - one of which is a 2cd set (the best band you've never heard in your life) that has a GREAT song about Jimmy Swaggart on it. It is hilarious -

The problem with being such an eclectic music lover is there are TOO many cds to buy, so your collecton is always lacking.

Thanks very much for sharing your friend's music. I'd be interested in buying one of his cds, and will have to check later to see if they are available on the website. For now, I have to go to bed. Flexaril kicking in with a VENGENCE, must go upstairs before I wake up in the morning in a faceplant on the keyboard :)

Nice talkin' to ya! 'Night!
