Anyone ever hear of Granny D?
She'll be speaking on my campus tomorrow afternoon. It should be interesting.

My campus email said this about her today:

"Granny D is a 94-year-old woman from New Hampshire who has spoken to elected officials and people all across the country about campaign finance reform. Her concern for the state of democracy in the U.S. led her on an incredible and honorable journey. This journey began January 1 1999 when she began a 3,200 mile walk from California to Washington, DC to raise awareness about the negative affects of private money in politics and demand that reforms be made."

1. Seriously?
I thought she single-handedly did more to raise awareness of the need for campaign finance reform than any politician I can think of.

I think you'll really enjoy her speech.

Do visit her site at www.grannyd.org

One of her speeches has become a favorite of mine:
"Don't Stand In The Way Of Our Joy"

7. A snip about Granny D...
"Doris "Granny D"Haddock is a 94 year old great-grandmother of 16, who in 2000, at the remarkable age of 90, walked 3,200 miles from California to Washington D.C. to demonstrate her concern about big money in politics. She has inspired countless ordinary citizens of all generations to get engaged in politics to reform our democracy. "I believe she represents all that is good in America. She has taken up this struggle to clean up American politics...we are grateful for you," - Senator John McCain (R- AZ). In Minnesota, she will stop in Minneapolis, St. Cloud, Duluth, Morris, Mankato and Northfield to lead students and community members in a Walk for Democracy."
