Poll question: Best Soundtrack Theme
Best Soundtrack Theme

(And don't come talkin' bout no "Pulp Fiction" or "Matrix" - this is about old-style, grandiose shmaltzy themes, not post-modern slickster stuff!)

2. John Williams
Star Wars movies.

ANY of the soundtracks.
(Hell, for episodes 1 and 2, the music was better than the movie!)

I still remember, 1977.
I go to the Wisconsin theater here in Sheboygan, and that "DAUNG!" of orchestra hit me like a sonic boom, I knew I was in for a good time.

9. LOL
Just a bit too bombastic for home listening for me. There are a lot of other really effective themes like that (like Halloween above - WAY too creepy to listen to at home, but pretty brilliant anyway...)

10. I love Horner too.
Edited on Thu Apr-22-04 02:22 AM by Archae
I first heard his stuff in "Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan," and "Search For Spock."

I then noticed his earlier work from "Krull," (great cornball movie,) but "Titanic" was simply bad.

And let us not forget...James (John?) Barry.

The Bond movies, "The Black Hole," "Out Of Africa," so many.

12. Horner is a fraud
Williams, in technique, is in a different class altogether. A consummate musician.

13. Batman, Danny Elfman
is pretty good...

Rocky had a TON of great music in it...

I also like that one "You're the Best" song in the Karate Kid...Ralph Macchio fighting the Cobra Kai guys, and they're shouting SO obnoxiously "Yeaaah!! GO Johnny! Kick his ass!!" and laughing hysterically...

14. There is only one, Ennio Morricone.
So I'll go with "Once Upon a Time in the West".

"2001", "A Hard Day's Night" and Jarre's "Lawrence of Arabia" also come to mind.

15. The Red Violin
Gorgeous music by John Corigliano. Just gut wrenching.

I also quite like John Williams' body of work and the soundtrack from "Gladiator".

21. This is embarassing to admit...
I heard the music for the first time when I saw Michelle Kwan skate to excerpts. I fell instantaneously in love. Went out and bought the soundtrack and the movie and was SO glad I did. I probably re-watch it every month or 2. It makes me cry but in a good way. :)

I just love the soundtrack to that film - especially the "Cornfield"
theme and the charge into the first battle.
