It just hit me what *'s delivery reminds me of.

Mrs. V.'s in the front room, watching the thing about the medicare bill. * says, "I appreciate Tom Scully...." The inflection of his voice -- kinda a monotone, with a falling inflection after every few words, then a pause, then the next phrase delivered in the same way --

it's just like the old deacons & elders sounded in the church I grew up in when they prayed!

Complete with the awkward pauses, overly dramatic gestures, and absolutely confident that the women adore him.

3. He sounds like he's making excuses all the time

like the type of guy who actually believes them courtesy of that extra patronizing tone: "It wasn't MY fault I hit Johnny in the Eyeball with a paperclip! I was trying to shoot a fly, and I looked at the rule book and it's NOT against the rules."
