Kentucky Derby: anyone else following "Smarty Jones"?
<snip>

Racing fever is set to strike the US on Saturday with the 130th running of the Kentucky Derby.

The $1m race, run at the famous Churchill Downs track, is the first leg of the US Triple Crown.

Last year, the race was won by Funny Cide, whose rags-to-riches story captured the heart of America and drew comparisons with Seabiscuit.

Nineteen horses will line up for the 1¼-mile contest, which is run on a dirt track.

1. My wife and I always bet on such things
I got Smarty Jones. I think his is a compelling story. My wife picked a 30 to 1 long shot because she liked his name. Its all in good fun. However, Smarty Jones winning would be a tremendous story for a long time. I think the field is down to 18 because of injuries.
