I own a house with cedar singles. I can't get the peeling paint off.

Is there anyway to do this without scaping every single shingle by hand? I've already tried a power washer? Help!!!!!!!!

1. whatever doesn't come off with a good power washer

doesn't NEED to come off. repaint right over what is left

had mine repainted 4 years ago and still holding up strong

2. I know the problem. didnt think of pressure washer, use heavy

round sander that you attach to your drill. New ones are pretty good.

Didn't use that either when I had house, had to paint shingles dark
dark brown to cover up imperfections.

try sander, that should do it.

3. Can be a bad idea

cedar dust can cause really bad respiratory problems, either follow advice above, if it isn't falling off, paint over it.

4. Do this...

Get a carbide-tipped paint scraper. Take one swipe at each patch of peeling paint--it will break off all of the peeling parts. Anything that's still there is going to stay there.

Then prime with Zinsser Bulls-Eye primer. This will keep you from having to paint the house black.

Then paint any color you want.
