Brillant show! I totally love it!

I think the show is going to be on "sneaky" repitition. He's playing Mozart's Symphony No. 11, and explicitly mentioned the literal repitition within it.

He did a show on literal interpretation, and now it's "sneaky" - which I'm sure you can figure out what that means, such as the atonal twelve-tone row being played forwards, backwards, reverse, inverse, etc.

4. I found Japan to be a very spiritual place.
I came back with a renewed outlook on my own journey. If you can go back, go to the countryside, it is so different than the crazy cities.

11. Yes, the countryside is amazing
I can't get Japan out of my head at all. I so totally fell in love with it.

Thank God that, if things go as they are supposed to go, I'll be living there in a few years.

5. He's not doing PDQ Bach,
but his weekly show on some aspect of music. Sometimes he plays his own music, often he plays the Beatles.

But the show, while funny, is also very seriously about learning some aspect of music.

He's playing an old motet now that uses a dies irae tune overlaid with another tune in a different beat pattern (isorhythmic, thalia versus color, 7 beats and 8 beats, I believe), and with "sneaky" repeating (which is the theme of this show).

"In Garrut Gallus" is the motet.

6. OooH!
Got to check when KUNM does Peter or get him off the web. In the late 60's early 70's I bought all his PDQs.
Loved how it would change coda.

7. He's doing "Strangers in the Night" as an example of isorhythm and
sequencing

he's done some Mozart, and also "Yakkity Yak" and a Miles Davis tune as well as some others.

I love this show.

In fact, it IS John Adams.

it's "Short Ride in a Fast Machine", done way back when John Adams was interesting and doing stuff that was worth listening to.

13. Saw him twice, I think
... in college. I remember having to choose what to spend my concert dollars on--PDQ Bach or Joan Sutherland in concert. I chose PDQ Bach.
