Democratic National Convention in Boston

We, the concerned voters and citizens of the United States, in order to preserve the principles of democracy in America, restore those principles where they have been neglected or eliminated, and protect them when they are attacked, call upon you, the leaders of the Democratic party, to challenge this country to live up to its potential as the safe-harbor of democracy, and to champion the efforts of your supporters by promising the following:

CIVIL LIBERTIES

• That the rights and liberties outlined and implied in the Unites States Constitution shall never be discarded or diminished, regardless of mitigating circumstances, and that the government of this country shall never fail to remember that its powers (and very existence) are derived solely from the consent of the people.

VOTING RIGHTS

• That every vote cast in any election held in the United States shall be considered the supreme right and expression of each citizen, as allowed by law.

• That any system used to count or collect such votes must ensure—beyond any reasonable doubt—the security of those votes from any illicit influence or corruption, foreign or domestic, public or private.

• Furthermore, that all voting systems maintain and provide a paper trail and backup, so that the veracity and reliability of said systems can always be demonstrated and confirmed.

A FREE PRESS

• That a national news media, free from the influences of special interest groups, be deemed an essential element of our democratic republic, and vital to the public interest.

• That as such, regulations similar to those by which we oversee the ethics and responsibilities of our elected officials must be implemented as a means to maintain the freedom and integrity of the press corps.

• Finally, that the laws which restrict monopoly and oligopoly control of media outlets must be strengthened and more strictly enforced, and all efforts to allow further consolidation of media ownership must be immediately halted.

We believe these issues to be of great importance to the future of our democracy, and therefore a crucial matter of our domestic, national security. As our votes help promote you to a position of stewardship over this great country, we ask that your stewardship always be used to protect the rights and votes of the sovereign citizens of the United States of America.
