I Just Received and Responded to A Freeper-Style E-Mail
Edited on Tue May-04-04 11:54 AM by CO Liberal
One of my right-wing co-workers just sent out the following to a large distribution:

The Ten Commandments display was removed from the Alabama Supreme Court building. There was a good reason for the move. You can't post Thou Shalt Not Steal, Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery and Thou Shall Not Lie in a building full of lawyers and Politicians without creating a hostile work environment.

I sent the following as a "Reply to All":

You also can't swear to uphold the Constitution, and then turn around and violate the First Amendment.

Right now, I'm sitting here waiting for the flames to start......

2. Good job...let us know how the flame fest progresses
My husband was approached by a fundie neighbor down the street the other day with a petition.

"Would you sign this petition? It's so that we can have display of the Ten Commandments in public buildings."

Covering his horror in his usualy genial style (Bless his heart, he's so much more relaxed than me...) he simply responded, "No thanks. But I respect your right to ask." God only knows what I would have come up with. But it wouldn't have been pretty.

Yay reprehensor! :-)

5. Only One Reply So Far
Another right-winger in my department sent me the following:

Wayne explain your point to me like I am a six year old so I can understand what your trying to say.

And I sent him the following reply:

Roy Moore took an oath to uphold the Constitution. By placing that monumemnt where he did, he violated that oath. Period.

Some people may look upon Roy Moore as a great man - not me.

Wayne

I'll post any further replies...

8. It Cracks Me Up...
...when I hear right-wingers say the the Pledge should contain "Under God" - just lke the Founding Fathers intended.

Rather hilarious when you consider that the pledge wasn't written until 1892....

9. Written in 1892, by a Socialist,
and most decidedly did NOT contain the offending phrase when written!

11. We Can Thank The Knights of Columbus For That
Edited on Tue May-04-04 02:38 PM by CO Liberal
The K of C started the movement to have "Under God" placed in the Pledge. They though that wouyld make the Pledge serve as a loyalty oath, since everyone knows that all communists are atheists and would not be able to recite the Pledge.

10. It's been my observation
that any right-wingnut so credulous as to forward that kind of drivel in the first place is completely unable to counter actual facts or fact-based arguments. They invariably respond with personal attacks. I've seen this more times than I care to remember. They will never come back to you with a reasoned, well-thought-out response based on logical fact; instead, they'll call you names and go sulk. It's happened on nearly every mailing list I've seen where this kind of stuff got forwarded - if someone who doesn't buy their brand of BS uses facts to counter it, they get childish taunts in reply.

"Oh yeah, well you may believe in the First Amendment, but Democrats are a bunch of poopypants!"

12. A Perfect Example of This....
...is what one right-winger sent as a response to mine in Post #5 above...

Ever wonder why colleges are liberal? Maybe it's because the conservatives are too stupid to get admitted.
