Hi! Bit of a computer emergency. Please help! Thanx.
Long story short, I have an iMac. I just spilled about a full cup of seltzer water directly onto the keyboard. I've dried it as best I can, but there's still seltzer water visible UNDER the plastic cover of the keyboard---and probably in places that I can't see. Question: Should I try to pry this keyboard cover open to dry what's inside? The keyboard looks like it's KINDA pry-openable, but at the same time, it looks like it shouldn't be done by computer-illiterates like me.

Any help will be so appreciaed you can't even believe it. This computer is my life and my work. Two years spent on my novel.

Thanks!!!!!

1. first...
disconnect all power, if you haven't already.

second, yes, if you can open the keyboard, do so. Let it dry out for a whole day or two, then put it back together and see what happens.

If it really was a whole cup of water, it's probably not gonna work, but I've seen stranger things happen. I've seen PDA's that were totally submerged work after drying out. Good luck!

2. Unplug the keyboard from the machine now
I haven't taken apart an iMac lately, so I may be superseded, but I would not open the keyboard. I would let it air dry, then test it on the machine. If you have your life's work, if you can borrow another keyboard and back up your files, I'd do so. Best of luck.

3. Another tip to dry it out faster
keep it close to a heater or a fan, something that will air dry it with forced air.

6. And any USB keyboard will do.
They're all pretty much the same. I personally use a MS keyboard ( I share my printer, keyboard, and monitor via a switch) with my Mac and PC.

4. If it's just water, you're in good shape
Use a blow dryer and leave it overnight to be sure. Anyways, a keyboard failure will not take any other components out (Well, not 90% of the time.)
