My Aching Back.
Three months ago, Mrs. XNASA & I bought a new mattress and foundation.

I prefer a firm mattress, but gave in and consented to a getting a firm mattress w/pillowtop.

I hate it. I wake up every morning with a back ache. The last two nights I slept camping-style on the Living Room floor because I was in the process of painting our Bedroom and guess what? I feel fine.

My question is......"Aside from the 'Stick a piece of plywood under the mattress trick' is there any other way to firm up my side of the bed? Does anyone make a product that will help to adjust the mattress?"

Sliding a piece of plywood between the mattress and foundation seems like it might cause the fabric to rip or tear.

Any suggestions?

1. those "sleep-number" beds
supposedly allow the firmness of each side to be adjusted individually....

2. In retrospect, that's what I should have done.
But now, I think I'm stuck with our current mattress.

3. after 3 months this probably won't help...but
most problems with new mattresses (may not apply here) are with the cellular memories with the muscles (the rupa-nam-sut in sanskrit) anyway...

so, try this if possible.. before bed say 1/2 hour, eat a tablespoon of peanut butter (or other sophorific - warm milk, some chocolate) AND take one aspirin. Make sure you drink enough water/fluids for the aspirin. Then say 30 minutes later, go to bed.

The combination of the two (peanut butter + aspirin) should allow the muscles to 'ease up' enough to start the processess of adapting to the new structure of the mattress...

unless you are alergic to either, can't hurt and likely will help.

If you do yoga you could try substituting a crow, and a couple of down-dogs, and sitting forward stretch for the aspirin. The idea is to release the muscles of their habituated response so they can build a new one.

5. I've always maintained
that a successful marriage depends on having a bedroom big enough for 2 queen-sized beds.
