Remember when you were young?
you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the cross fire of childhood and stardom,
blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger,
you legend, you martyr, and shine!

You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Treatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision,
rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter,
you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

2. Oh, man...concert flashback!
Hearing that tune and "On The Turning Away" live are two of my fondest concert moments.

Even if the show was in the ugly-ass Alamodome where the exposed girders fucked up the light show. :grr:

5. Oh, I totally agree.
I was a huge Floyd Freak when I was a kid, and I always thought it was great that they followed the ginormously selling "Dark Side of the Moon" with an album so soulful and sad. Definitley not a "let's repeat our successes until they become cliches" type album.

Plus, when I was 4 years old, my dad left the sleeve of "Wish You Were Here" lying around, and I was so frightened and disturbed about the guy on fire that I made him store it in the attic where I couldn't see it. Es verdad!

8. I found that image on a poster ...
I immediately bought it. Later, I got it framed. The framer knew where the pic came from and said they couldn't do the matting like the cover. Still looks good.

7. Try "Piper at the Gates of Dawn"
Their very first...the song "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" was written as a tribute to Syd Barrett, the Floyd's original guitarist & vocalist...the first (and second) records are a lot different than the later stuff, but no less trippy (I personally think a WHOLE BUNCH more trippy!!!).

9. I'm not that much of a fan of that period
There's a few songs I like from the early days, but I'm more of a Waters fan.

14. Yeah. Give me their psychedelic pop stuff any day!
Syd was a twisted genius. I like some of the Waters stuff, too, but I find some of it pretty pretentious and long-winded.

15. The Final Cut is overplayed?
Piper and Saucerful of Secrets too? what about More?
I wish I lived somewhere like that, getting to hear great, forgotten tunes on the radio instead of top forty all the time every time.

17. If you want to hear cuts like that on the radio
then look into satellite radio. I hear great forgotten music like that all the time since I subscribed to XM. Terrestrial radio has gotten so overprogrammed, bland, and hopelessly overrun with commercials and "personalities" that you never seem to hear decent, interesting music on it anymore, but satellite radio is what FM was when it first went stereo.

13. Reminds Me of One of My Fave Techno Songs
U SHINE ON

Lyrics:

V1
Drift into endless peace.
To melody of sweet release.
I'll let my spirit fly to heaven so high.
To see the way you shine.

Chorus
You shine on like everything around you.
You shine on, my spirit will surround you.
Like a bird in flight I will release you.
You shine on.

V2
My fate is in your hands.
Im flying high nowhere to land.
So catch me when I fall, awaken my soul.
And help me understand.

Chorus

16. the cover of Animals
with the giant pig floating over the factory with the huge smokestacks. That was a classic, I used to have a poster that was something like four and a half feet by five or six feet of that. I was the only guy on my floor in college who listened to the Floyd yet everybody dug that poster.
